It's hard to beat the 2005-2006 Legacy and Outback, both turbo and non-turbo, in the 20K-30K range, for many reasons......I've gone over them before and won't rehash all of them here. I look at a LOT of new vehicles, and, for the money, those two really impressed me from Day One.

I'm with magneto on the grille issue....leave it off. That odd-shaped center-snout grill with the two side trapezoids you see on the Impreza, Outback Sport, and Tribeca is Subaru's attempt , like Saab, to show off its original aircraft heritage. The shape is supposed to remind one of an airplane fuselage with wings.

 

Outbacks are ugly now as well.
