Funny how I was just watching it with my dad, he is drooling all over it now
My dad was hooked when they first showed the concept vehicle. There's no stopping him now!

If Lexus can price the LS460 under 80k or even maybe under 70k, then maybe the S can have some serious competition.

you mean the ls460 or the ls460l? if it's just the ls460, i think it will still be under 80k. for the ls460l, for fully loaded i think it will be over 80 (but then it has quite a few stuff s class doesn't have). so price wise i think it's pretty competitive

I think S class is more suitable for HK from a more practical standpoint with the roads there, where can you really have fun with a M5 ?
Actually even with the S class, a S350 should be sufficient there, people there just buy the S500 & above for status . . .

One thing about the S class though, is that the minute you walk out the entrance of the HK airport, you can see at least half a dozen of them lined up as airport limousines waiting to be hired . . .

I was just recently talking to a S550 owner who has the night vision option and he told me they
are going to discontinue that option because the company who supplies the technology is not
going to be claim liability and MB doesn't want to claim liability as well.

There of course seems to be obvious reasons why people would want to sue MB in the event
something should ever happen while they were driving at night. It would be easy enough for
lawyers to argue the night vision failed to show a road hazard which cause the accident.

Very cool techonolgy, but sounds like MB might have a lot of complaints if drivers ever
had any issues.

Can anyone confirm this?

Haven't heard about this, but couldn't they get away with it by putting up a legal disclaimer everytime they turn it on, like they do with the nav?

Disclaimers generally aren't worth the pixels they illuminate. It depends on somebody suing and the results of the first decision. Product liability is a thorny issue, especially in automobiles. We had a chance to do some work with an auto maker some time ago and as part of the contract, we had to be willing to pay $200 per car for any car that was recalled that in any way was traced to what we had worked on. That amount had the potential to far exceed the revenue we could make off of the contract so it was a non starter. But it is hard to believe that both MB and their vendor didn't thoroughly go through this issue long before a vehicle was in a customer's hands.

I just clicked over the the MBUSA.com web site to configure a new S550 and the night view
option is not available because:

"(Delayed availability for the S550 Night View Assist; the P3 package is not yet available. Please see your dealer for details.)"

Sounds like it's a pretty popular $6550 option or their experiencing some problems.

Yea, its not fun to drive in HK.
But you forgot we still have Mainland China . The car will be going cross country most of the time, I have just came back from Zhu Hai a few days ago, and I saw a mid 50 dude with a brand spanking new M5, my dad was saying he can save time in that thing
So yea, if you want to have fun driving in HK, you need a Chinese License as well

It actually is a popular item. The P3 package has been back ordered, or something like that for some time. They've recently started having them again.
