Default Chrysler Prowler...Wow!

I recently had the rare priviledge of getting up close and personal with a 2001 Chrysler Prowler. Only 11,000 were ever produced between 1997 and 2002. And only 1,576 of them were painted this gorgeous Candy Apple red, which is the color of the beauty I got to sit in. The circumstance was a recent backyard barbeque party I attended and one of the guests arrived in this awesome looking car. It's 5 years old but looked like it had just left the showroom....unbelievably immaculate! Needless to say, it is not used as a daily driver........just as a weekend cruiser and a definite head turner!

3.5-liter high-output 24-valve SOHC V6 rated at 253 hp @ 6,400 rpm and 255 lb-ft of torque @ 3,950 rpm.

The last car to roll off the production line in 2002 was sold at a Christie's auction for $175,000.

No matter how many times I see them, Prowlers are sexy cars. Like the original Vipers...timeless.

The Prowler is a pretty light vehicle at 2,780 lbs. It was Chrysler's attempt at an NSX-like super-car. It didn't really end up with supercar performance, but the performance was respectable - especially considering the crappy 4-speed "autostick" transmission: 0-60 mph in 6.4 seconds and the quarter mile in 15 seconds @ 90 mph.

It has the "look at me" factor many much more expensive, much faster cars lack. I think that was the point of this vehicle from the begining. It was something to draw consumer's attention to the Plymouth brand - an attempt to differentiate Chrysler's brands' homogenous offerings.

Needs a Hemi to make it a true Hot Rod.

I liked the look but the underpowered factor kills it for me. They look like fun to drive though

From the looks of that nose, I doubt if they could shoehorn anything bigger in there. I'm guessing that the footwells were too cramped to include a third pedal for a clutch as well.

A nice car indeed, but I really think a supercharged 3.0, or something smaller than a 3.5 with some FI would've done the trick better. I don't exactly consider 253 to be "high output" from a 3.5, which really is a decently large V6.

I see them pretty often too, not every weekend, but about once a month. They do look sexy from the outside, but that's about all it has going for it IMO... I personally wouldn't spend my money on one.

You have to remember that this car came out what.. 8-9 years ago? 253 hp from a V6 back then was more then respectable at that time frame!

In that time frame the most powerful NA-V6 belonged to the NSX at 290 hp. An M3 was still at 240 hp in the states! And corvettes were at 345 hp!
