* Sales up 11.3 percent in June, best June since 2001
* First half sales up 6.8 percent over year ago
* Q7 launch off to a strong start
* A4 and A6 models continue robust sales pace
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., July 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Audi of America, Inc.,
today reported 8,039 vehicle sales for the month of June, an 11.3 percent
increase over year ago sales. This is the fourteenth monthly sales increase
over the past 17 months, and a positive indication that Audi will meet its
goal of record sales in 2006.
Sales in June were up or on par across the Audi line up. The all-new Q7
performance SUV tallied 1,310 sales in June, the first official month of
sales for that vehicle. Sales of the A3 and A6 models were up significantly
again, 17.9 percent and 10.5 percent, respectively. The Audi A3 recorded
665 sales in the U.S., with most sales coming from the all-important
Southern California market.
"Clearly our all-new Q7 performance SUV is a hit with consumers," said
Johan de Nysschen, Audi of America, Inc., executive vice president. "Our
dealers are telling us that the Q7 is driving increased showroom visits,
including all new customers to the brand. Importantly, consumers are
reacting well to all of our vehicles, which means we're not relying on one
or two vehicles to carry our volume increase."
Audi sales for the first half of 2006 totaled 40,455, a 6.8 percent
increase over last year. This puts Audi on track with de Nysschen's goal of
earning a sales record in 2006. The previous annual sales record for the
brand was in 2003 when Audi dealers sold 86,421 vehicles.
Audi of America is launching 18 all-new models and variants between
2005 and 2007. June marked the official sales launch of the Q7 performance
SUV and the 420-horsepower RS 4 sports sedan. Later this fall, Audi will
introduce the A4 and S4 Cabriolets, and the V-10 S6 and S8 performance
sedans.
Audi's history in America dates to 1969, when the brand was first
introduced to the U.S. market. Today, a network of over 260 Audi dealers
currently offers a line of premium vehicles that include the nimble Audi
A3; the sporty A4 sedan, Avant and Cabriolet models; the high performance
S4 sedan, Avant and Cabriolet models; the high-revving RS 4 sports sedan;
the design-leading A6 sedan and Avant; the all-new Audi Q7 performance SUV;
the all-aluminum Audi A8; and the award-winning TT Coupe and Roadster.

DEARBORN, Mich., July 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Ford Motor Company's
(NYSE: F) U.S. sales totaled 269,404, down 7 percent. Car sales were up 7
percent, but truck sales were down 14 percent.
In the first six months of 2006, Ford's U.S. sales totaled 1.55
million, down 4 percent. Car sales were up 5 percent and truck sales were
down 9 percent.
"Our performance in the car market is cause for optimism," said Al
Giombetti, president, Ford and Lincoln Mercury marketing and sales,
"because it shows we can win in the industry's most competitive segment."
Ford's domestic brands (Ford, Lincoln and Mercury) have achieved higher
car sales in five of the last six months.
Demand for Ford's all-new mid-size sedans (Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan,
and Lincoln Zephyr) remained strong with combined June sales of 19,149. In
the last three months, sales for this trio averaged 19,655 a month.
Higher gas prices are contributing to lower truck sales, particularly
in the large SUV and pickup categories. Traditional truck-based SUVs have
declined industry-wide for four years in a row, but the decline in large
pickups is a relatively recent phenomenon.
"After the sharp run-up in gasoline prices in April, some truck buyers
delayed purchases," noted Giombetti. "Truck buyers are not as likely as SUV
buyers to leave the segment, but some buyers are deferring purchases to
balance higher monthly payments and higher fuel costs."
Ford's F-Series truck, America's best-selling vehicle, posted June
sales of 65,452, down 10 percent compared with a year ago. In the first six
months of 2006, F-Series sales totaled 400,177, down 2 percent from the
same period a year ago. Nonetheless, Ford has outperformed the industry in
the full-size pickup segment having increased its share of segment by over
two percentage points.
Ford's best selling SUV experienced larger declines. Explorer sales
were off 36 percent in June and Expedition sales were off 46 percent.
In the first six months of 2006, lower sales of traditional SUVs (76,322)
more than accounted for the overall sales decline among Ford's domestic brands
(56,703).

Mazda's all-new CX-7 crossover sport-utility vehicle (SUV) reported
solid sales of 1,349 units for its first full month of sales, even though
availability was low in some areas of the country. With a starting MSRP of
$23,750, CX-7 features a 244-hp turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder
direct-injection gasoline engine, yet still delivers an estimated 23 mpg in
combined city and highway driving.
MAZDA3 celebrated its best-ever June with sales of 9,452 units, up
19-percent, despite a continuing lack of inventory resulting in only a
39-day supply (approximately 60 days is considered optimal). The MX-5 Miata
posted its best June since 2002 with sales of 1,584 units and was also
constrained by a lack of inventory. The innovative MAZDA5 multi-activity
vehicle continues to create a new market segment, with sales for the month
of 1,705 and for the year of 9,511.
Headquartered in Irvine, Calif., Mazda North American Operations
oversees the sales, marketing, parts and customer service support of Mazda
vehicles in the United States, Canada and Mexico through nearly 900
dealers. Operations in Canada are managed by Mazda Canada, Inc., located in
Ontario, Canada, and in Mexico by Mazda Motor de Mexico in Mexico City.
