Car itself works without it of course, since car is moved by driving it (Ship, port, truck, etc).
oh, sorry i probably missed that post. good explanation. well if that's the case, then there are chances for screw up still

Yep...I don't think it was a short circuit. I think someone set it ablaze by tossing something at the train.

It's actually THREE-tone.....Black, silver, and ASH gray.

I agree with you, though...more manufacturers should be offering more 2-tones. Subaru had a number of them up until this year....but has dumped most of them.

I'm pretty sure it's plastic/vinyl protective covering too.

Look under the doorhandle of the A6 in question - that's not paint - that's a piece of plastic to prevent scratches presumably. My guess is it's the same on the rest of the car.

Guys...I think videcormeum is correct.....and for another reason too. If you look at the back of that " two-tone" A6, just above the rear taillight ( and you have to look closely ) ....you will see two very small dimples where the stick-on plastic / vinyl is wrinkled. So it does seem to be stick-on stuff after all.
Damn.....almost had me fooled.

It's common in areas that have a lot of acid rain or other corrosive effects in the air...and remember this is Germany. The prevailing westerly winds carry a lot of s* * * in the air downwind from the vast Ruhr manufacturing area.

We sometimes see it here on the East Coast because of similiar wind patterns downwind from all the smoky power plants in the PA-OH area.

L.A., too, is full of air pollution.....wouldn't be surprised to see it there.

Still, I have to admit...unless you really looked close it DID look like two-tone paint.
