You are correct and I knew that was coming I should have clarified what I meant which is #1 overall as a compact car IMHO. If design strategies remain the same I believe the Corolla will always outsell the civic as the Corolla appeals to a broader market(both young & old) w/ its soft ride, etc... the civic appeals more to the younger market now w/ its sportier looks/ downright harsh ride. I actually have both cars in my family('06 Civic LX sedan/ '06 Corolla LE) so I should know lol

yeah but that wont change, ever. Toyota always wants to appeal to broad market.

Another thing that came out - Corolla hatchback will have an multilink suspension.

Which is quite interesting since Honda moved from sportier multilink to cheaper torsion beam, while Toyota is moving from torsion beam to multilink.

The place where the civic shines over the Corolla is Driver seat comfort & position due to the telescope steering wheel & about 1" more front leg room. And even though the ride may be too harsh for some it does much better than the Corolla in accident avoidance due to its superior handling. Also its 5 speed auto(world 1st in a compact economy sedan) & standard safety equipment are impressive. I know that Toyota will most likely address all this in the next Corolla so it should be interesting. One compact sedan I drove that had the best balance between ride comfort & handling was the Ford Focus which will be redesigned next year.. too bad reliability on the Focus is not as good as its predecessor, the Escort

Good find. Looks more like a 2-door hatch than a coupe. Seems to be the current trend to maximize interior volume/cargo space, although Honda still manages to keep the 2-door Civic a proper coupe.
