Default Japanese Investigate Toyota Execs for Delayed Recall

Date posted: 07-13-2006

TOKYO — Japanese prosecutors are looking into an alleged delay by Toyota executives in recalling the Hilux Surf SUV, a.k.a. the 4Runner in the U.S.

The investigation centers around Toyota executives' failure to recall the vehicle although the company knew as early as 1996 that it was defective.

According to police investigating a 2004 accident in Kumamoto, Southern Japan, the automaker was aware the Hilux Surf's steering assembly had a problem but failed to issue a recall on the car. Japanese prosecutors are focusing their investigation on three executives at Toyota headquarters, whose names were not released. Charges have not yet been filed in the investigation.

What this means to you: The hero may not have feet of clay, but this does look like a tiny ding in the armor, at least.

Unhappy Boy oh Boy

The TC moonroof, Tundra kiddie latch, Highlander/RX dash ... now this ... I guess that they cannot all be sunshiney days but that is a lot of rain in 1 week.

I sense joy in Detroit ...
