Interesting how most give mad props when we see 22's on the 7-series, but this Q45 comes along and its an instant from EVERYONE!! Just an observation.

LOL, but I must agree, it just doesnt look as good. Maybe its the style rim, no drop, or not as an attractive bodystyle. IMO this car begs for the VIP treatment.

I dont know man.. car looks killer in person... Everyone in the neighborhood has complimented him like he's the president. These are people who own S550 and new 7 series.

I didnt know how aggressive and sick the Q looks till I just saw in hooked on rims the other day and I tell you it looks Stunning!! Gonna ride again tonite with my neighbor.

 

Is your neighbors name Bruce?? I dealt with a guy for about a month that had a Q and wanted to run 22"s. If it is Bruce tell him Derrick from D2 said hello. Also ask where is the 6" lip he told me he was gonna get! lol (just a little inside joke)


To be honest, I see 7 series all the time with the nastiest non staggered cheapie wheels and it looks just as bad as anything else. The things that makes the 7 a slam dunk with wheel fitment is the lip sizing (3.5" front with bbk clearance, 5" rear with bbk clearance is a snooze for any decent manufacturer), and also the ability to slam the car after fitting 22" wheels

In my opinion (personal taste) when you increase the diameter of the wheel by 4 or 5" (the Q has 17s or 18's standard), if you cannot then lower the car by at least 2" then its not going to look right, and . Thats the reason everyone is not really liking the outcome, its because the car looks "awkward". Trust me, with the tire sizing on the market now, 22's alone is no big deal at all, you will see them on Camry's and Accords in about 3 minutes.

Its all about completing the package IMO

You're right, you can't run 22's on GS/SC/LS and have it still properly drivable.

A 30 series tire on a 285 width is 3.36" tall if my math is right.

On a 22" rim that sidewall is about 15% the size of the rim.

A 35 series on a 285 width on a 20' rim for example, is nearly 20% the size of the rim so it doesn't look so 'skinny'.

 

At some point they start to look like wagon wheels...or the car resembles a monter truck.

 

To be honest I've seen much worst on some of these Lexus' around here. It's not something I would ever do thats for sure.

Soooo this means the next time i run across a 7 series thread with these wagon wheels and everyone is praising it to high heaven I get to talk about you like a dog right.....

 

They look like the TrafficStars that TLW had except in chrome? TrafficStar RTS? But I didn't think that they'd be available in 22's.

 

I'm also not a fan of huge wheels but I can understand what he's saying. They don't look THAT bad. Considering the wheel design, it's not as much of an eyesore as most 22's I've seen. The wheels do seem a little too big on the car. IMO, 20's are perfect and any bigger requires a lot of exterior cosmetic work before it achieves VIP status.

The car needs some work before those 22's will flow right with the car and even with work, the wheels may still be too big and stand out.

He needs a drop and a vip style kit (EXAMPLE: JP) before he can get those 22's to look right on the car.

IMO, 20's, a kit, and a drop will make more heads turn than simply 22's. Bigger doesn't necessarily mean better.

Even on the 7-series, unless the 22's match the car perfectly (wheel design, ride height, etc.), the car can't carry off the look.

 

My beef with most guys who do big set-ups like this is that they don't LOWER THE CAR.

They think "I'll just but enormous wheels on it, that way I won't have to lower the car." Wrong.

Here's a Q45 with 22s that is lowered- looks 1,763 times better (in my opinion).

Too bad the guy wouldn't stagger the wheel widths- these cars BEG for a fat lip and wide rubbber out back!

 

That is much much better SocalSC4 a drop make all the difference in the world, you are right. I'd still never go that big though.

 

I'd rather a GS on 20s, a LS on 20s, a 745 on 20s, a S on 20s, a XJ8 on 20s, a new 5 on 20s, than a Q on 22s. He could have 30" wheels, it won't matter.

The math is wrong, the car looks weird, I'll give him a cookie for trying so he can say "hey I got my car on 22s". I bet with the stock brakes behind it, it looks ridiculous.

The lowered Q45 SoCal posted looks better but its still not a pretty car to look at and one of the reasons it is discontinued.

I think I am going to start buying size 18 Jordans on my feet b/c it technically has more leather and its MORE shoe than my proper size, a 13.

Bigger is better right?
