Most of the defective M3 engines that I know of were built in 2001 and 2002....but I am not an expert on the subject. Check with BMW for specific dates and VIN's.

the 2001 and 2002 m3 had a tendency to blow their engines. and i believe all e46 had defective window regulators as well. i would stay away from the bmws that are out of warranty.

Thats one thing I was thinking. That also brings me to another point. I know BMW has that no maintenance cost thing for new purchases. Did they have that on previous years?

Thanks

I don't believe the model years you would be looking at would have this available. I would strongly consider a GS if I were you. I love mine.

I took out a $30k loan for a 2nd car, well actually it was for a daily driver. I already had a GS so I was looking at an IS300 or and LS400. But, I ended up getting a 97SC300 which turned out to be an awesome decision. When it comes down to it, I realised I didn't need to spend that kind of money on a second car. Let's just say I spent less than a third of my loan

Now I pay $150 a month to drive a clean, reliable Lexus. Lexus rock

doesnt really matter because from 70k+ upwards thats where BMW starts running into problems, and the free maintenance ends at 50k. id advise only only get a BMW if you know how to do repairs and maintenance yourself. BMW runs good if you know how to take car of it urself or constantly pay for expensive maintenance. otherwise, its not going to be worth it monetary wise. i know this info from friends who participate in bimmerfest and tune their own bimmers.

Thanks for the headsup about the BMW's. I'm probably going to get the GS300 or IS300... and that is going to rock. By the other Lexuses in the family, I love em, and they are so easy to use, reliable... They are just perfect. Japanese is the way to go. So it will probably be the GS300, IS300, or maybe the ES300 (2001ish)...

Thanks ClubLexus... And Lexuses rule
