2007 328i/335i sedan coming in Sep/Oct 2006 ($2100 increase for 335i sedan)
2007 328i MSRP = $32,400 ($1500 increase for +15 hp and +15 lb/ft torque)
2007 335i MSRP = $38,700 ($2100 increase for +45 hp and +80 lb/ft torque)
One thing I should clarify. The $2100 increase is NOT purely for the additional increase in power. It is also due to the fact that the model year is changing from 2006 to 2007. Even if there is little change, the cost of a car typically goes up by about 2% to 3% every year due to inflation. So in the case of the 335i, about $1000 of the price increase is due to inflation.

but they dont raise 80ft-lb of tq every year tho. I bet 335i would be a blast to drive but I dont see myself paying 55K for a non M 3 series because I am such a poor guy.

You think this thing will top off at 55K? You have to add about 10K to load up a 330i, I'd figure the same for the 335. Figure 49-50K loaded. It's getting close to the point where I'd rather spend some more for a 5 series.

i thought bmw was gonna stick with the name scheme of 328i/335i for their coupe and 325i/330i for their sedan? because i remember they were gonna drop the letter C for their coupes. but after 1 year, ppl who purchased the 325/330i are SOL? that really sux.

Here's an apples to apples comparison between the 335i and the IS350. Looks like the 335i has about a $3500 premium. Not bad, especially considering that the options are more a la carte in the BMW than in the Lexus, so you don't have to get a lot of the unnecessary stuff if you don't want. Also, if you're willing to do European Delivery, you could shave off about $3000 from the 335i.
2007 335i Sedan:
Base: $38,700
Freight: $695
Premium Pack: $2450
Auto Tranny: $1275
Heated Seats: $500
Metallic paint: $475
Navi: $2100
Comfort Access: $500
Parking Control: $350
Power Sunshade: $575
Total: $47,620
2006 IS350:
Base/Freight: $36,030
Luxury Pack: $3495
Navi/Levinson: $3990
Parking Assist: $500
Total: $44,015

- 6 cd player - $635
so the difference is $4k.
And it doesnt have ventilated sears, backup camera, etc.
Plus, if you want 18" wheels, most of the 350's come with 18" wheels which is an extra $720, and a lot more for 330i.
if you compare sport packages, difference shoots up to $5.5k.
Thats is a LOT, for BMW to catch up to Lexus in power department...

The 4 years free maintenance is hard to quantify; on our 330xi it's been about $2100 CAD since July 2002. I'd venture to guess it's about $2k average.
I wonder how re-sale will play into the price difference equation?

I will take the 335 over the IS because:
1, Rear seat space and trunk space on the IS is horrible
2, No fold-down back seat for IS (correct me if I am wrong). Sounds like Toyota has to sacrifice some practicalities for body rigidity
3, I can still get AWD with the more powerful engine in the series.
4, IS can't match the driving dynamic of the 3 (personal opinion)
5, Sports seat on the 3 RULES!
