i know a few people who had lost their owners manuals and then had problems when returning leased cars at MB and BMW dealeships.
my 03FX35 was broken into while i visited a friend of mine in NJ, the only thing that was stolen was owners manual, i had bunch of "good luck" dollor bills tied to roof handles and change in cupholder as well as my wifes gucci sun glasses and other rendome stuff, none of that was taken only the owner manual.
infiniti didnt say a word when i returned it.
lexus also didnt care when i returned my is300 without manual, second key and volet key

That service (I'm referring to the ability to recieve free owners manuyal from online) is awesome. I have a backup for all of my cars now.
