Thought. Why VDIM. How about just add a LSD to Lexus cars?

Exclamation Thought. Why VDIM. How about just add a LSD to Lexus cars?

Your thoughts on this? I pretty much dislike VSC in aggresive driving and haven't figured out if I've even gotten VDIM to kick in on the newer cars. I LOVED the Supra LSD in Bitkahuna's car when he let me drive it, it defeated the VSC and kept traction going.

Why go all complicated with VDIM? Why not an old fashioned LSD?

Your thoughts.

Hrm..my guess is that Lexus would rather have their computers slow down the car than to transfer power from wheel to wheel, which makes sense if someone was to go off course. I rather much be slowed down than to have more traction through the rear tires if I can't control the car in the first place.

Because you're looking at it from a performance / fun aspect and Lexus is looking at how to help people avoid accidents.

But two other words come to mind: Lawyers and accountants.

VDIM does much more than a what a LSD could do. For pure traction I agree with having a LSD as it gives me more traction and doesn't take take it away.

From the concept of stability control and reaction or prediction of an about to happen spin the LSD won't do much for you whereas VDIM can sense that you are about to lose it if you don't slow it down or brake one wheel or... something! I like the notion of a three way switch. Default on, competition mode and off. The only problem with this is that most people think they can drive with it off when in reality they should be using competition mode. Have you seen what newbies do at driving schools on their first runs?!?

Gimme AWD, LSD *and* a "programmable' stability system!

It's not the lawyers fault that the owners who are given a switch to turn off VDIM turn it off and suddenly think they are Michael Schumacher. *sigh*

However that doesn't mean you can't still have the things that make it harder for the VDIM to engage (AWD, LSD, etc..)

as everyone else said, LSD will help you put power to the ground better, but it wont help you from losing control of your vehicle.

Yeah. LSD eqipped vehicles also spin differently than open-diff cars...

My lexus would spin one tire and sit there and not move side to side. In my Nissan it spins both tires and the back side drifts from side to side depending on several factors (road slope, exiting a corner, steering angle, etc)

Much easier to control a spinout or slide in a non-LSD RWD car

Because an LSD causes wicked oversteer when you get into it in the corners. It is just asing for trouble
