I was also looking for a CL. One thing for sure: Just because it can be obtained at a very good price, I would not buy one without an extended warranty-preferably star-marked.
For the CL 600, mbworld.org members are saying to stay away from the 00 and 01.
For the CL 55, go for the 03+.....supercharged

I really thought that you were talking about the SL600 and I was about to s*** on my self because I new there was no way the SL could go for that little. I know a guy whos selling his
04 or 05 SL600 with a custom Renntech twin-turbo'd kit for 150k. The guy is a business man that I met at a local car show. Real cool guy.

Alright so I got to drive it today (The 600) against the E500 and I thought though the E500 feels faster then the CL, the CL is incredible. Honestly I don't know what to do I think i'm going to wait a week and see how I feel from there.

Sorry, just saw this thread.
Personally, I think the best deal out right now is the 03-04 CL55's that can be had for $45-50. In comparison, you won't find a 03-04 SL55 for any less than 65k....and that's with high miles. Most are still $75k-80k. I think LKirchner has both and can attest to that.
I think for 35k, it's one of the better cars you can get, if not the best. I had alot of problems with mine, but it was the first year they produced that and the S class, which had infinitely more gadgets than probably any other car ever to that point, even any prior Benzes. Any Benz model that has come out since then, even new body styles, likely wouldn't have anywhere near the number of problems.
A 600 for $35k definately sounds low. They hold their value pretty well as opposed to the 500 and even the 55. I am not sure if they had the 600 in 2000.....I thought the first year for that and the 55 was 2001. It is somewhat risky to buy one of those without an extended warranty. I was lucky in that I had it Starmarked (which I was not told by dealer when I bought it) and had an extended warranty, so I was covered until I sold it. Problems I had....Air flow sensor went out at 12k....$1000, ABC problem....another $1000-1500, steering rack
(I bet was thousands), and yes, some electrical gremlins. My key would not turn one day and I had to have car towed to dealer, they had to replace whole ignition and shifter, etc. No explanation. That probably was a few thousand too. As for engine problems....not existent....any problems you hear about with the 600 in terms of ABC are general CL problems the 500 and 55 had too. I've never heard about any engine problems, tranny problems, etc. with any of them (and let's put it this way...I changed my oil MAYBE 3 times in the 65k miles I owned car). The engines are bulletproof.
If you were comparing the E500 versus the CL, it's a different league. I mean honestly...the CL is a $90k car stock, even with no options. It is THE car. It's even more luxurious than my SL. E's are dime a dozen, CL's are $100 per dozen. They aren't around. I mean really...the only other cars I figured I would drive over the CL when I had it was the SL (because I wanted a convertible), the CL55/SL55, Bentley GT, Lambo or a Ferrari. I mean...how realistic is that? It's not...those are $150k-200k cars.
They changed the tails in 2003....that's really it. They changed the Navi system in 2003 too. Everything else stayed the same....body style, grille, etc. Not even 1 subtle difference. Get a sport package if possible...it looks better. You may want to hold off 6 months because once the new CL comes out, you will find the W215 for even less than now. Were they not coming out with a new style, I would have kept mine or got a CL55.

Where are you guys finding nice CL55/CL600 for 45K - 50K? They must have over 50,000 miles on the odometer. I will not purchase a German car without a warranty period. Especially a CL. Like I said in a pervious post they had old CL55/CL600 for the prices I paid for my 02 with less than 19,000 miles but those cars didn't have all the options and they had over 60,000 on them. To be honest no matter which CL you purchase your going to be ****. Most CL's I see are black or silver which is why I purchase alabaster white with the AMG package.
What's so funny my man just call me from the auction and said he purchase S500 for 31K. Yes he made out but I guarantee he want sleep good at night. Once the ABC system fails on his car.
To be honest if you wait for the new body style you'll save a lot money. But I couldn't.

In terms of appearance, the CL is a wonderful car by any angle. It actually looks much better in person than in pictures. Girls love it, too. ![Smilie](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Compare to the SC400, my CL is actually more solid, comfortable and not to mention, more attractive (given its rarity compare to the SC).
However, when it comes to little electrical issues, the CL can become a nightmare if you own one without any warranty. The active suspension, which automatically lowers/raises the car, can fail easily on cars with higher miles. Without warranty it's an easy $4k to repair.
If you don't mind bearing with little electrical issues here and there, the CL is a very comfy cruiser. I personally don't think there's a need to go with the AMG or 600 model as the 500 is plenty fast. If you get on the gas a little too much, it has no problem breaking traction on my rear 275 Pilot Sport tires. With my CL's modded quad exhaust, it's crazy loud and actually scared the crap out of the Mustang GT driver when he was revving his engine next to me at the stop light.![Big Grin](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

I test drove a CL55 again yesterday after having my CL500 for 6 months. Even though I perfer the luxury of a 500 the CL55 is crazy fast. I did a burn out at the first stop light. I told the dealer it should be illegal for people to drive a car that fast. Now i'm undecide! I want a loaded CL55 or CL65.
