Please Lexus, do not bring in a RAV4 based small SUV. Going down market
is a NO NO! Americans would not want the Lexus brand to be dilluted with
a car that no one really asked for and needs.

Going down market will kill the brand like the X-type did for Jaguar.

I hope there will be good news for the 2IS coupe either at the upcoming LA show or the Detroit show (no Tokyo show this year ) I'm in the market for a coupe ... was originally waiting for the 2nd gen G35 coupe next year ... but if Lexus brings out the 2IS coupe around the same time as the ES350 did this year (ie early summer 2007) ... I could wait for that.

This blunder alone shatters the credibility of autoweek's "insider" information.

The 2007 RX350 DOES use a 5 speed, and it won't get a 6 speed ... the redesigned next-gen RX will have the 6 speed.

Many reports from Japan say a new Supra *is* coming, contrary to autoweek's sources.

And the Prius coming out as a 2010 or 2011 model? Last I heard the new Prius was going to be a 2009 model.

http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dl...1/TOC01ARCHIVE

Autoweek also says that "Prius gets hybrid option", and that for the new Tundra, "a V6 may come later" when Toyota clearly confirmed the new Tundra would be available with the V6 and V8 engines.

^^ I am with you. The whole article is just rubbish. LFA to take on Corvett? What a joke!

Now this info, if true, has me excited

An IS converible doesn't make much sense to me as the car already has marginal rear seat room.

Uh? Have you seen the SC430?

An IS350 convertible with small(er) rear seats will make the current SC obsolete and overpriced.

It will make more sense to make it into a two seater, like the Z350 roadster.

lol - yeah that was my point - why bother with an IS convertible with the SC out there? Although it sounds like the SC will get bigger and an IS convertible will probably be a good bit cheaper than an SC. I guess I figure an IS convertible won't be that great, maybe I'm wrong.

Well maybe the current SC, yes, but it will be replaced and no doubt get fancier.

That would be cool. You mean the 350Z?

Makes perfect sense then no? Its rare to have a convert with rear seat room and I hope no one buys a convert for that reason.

Something tells me that if the X3 & the RDX sell well, Lexus is going to want a piece of the action.

A compact SUV does not necessarily have to be down market - if done properly. Not everyone needs a midsize vehicle like the RX so this would be catering to those w/ smaller needs; probably more sporty too {think IS vs ES}. It is all about the packaging and execution & I highly doubt Lexus will just rebadge a Rav4 ... if this market grows I anticipate more players on the field.

Be interesting to see a compact SUV. I've been waiting years for Lexus to do something like that. I'm a fan of compact stuff. People call it death trap on wheels. I just feel more comfortable lol. Not a fan of modern day tanks. Even the GX470, is driving me nuts with the size. Anyways. Wonder how powerful it will be, and hopefully it wont be a bubble like the RX.
