Also only a matter of time before this is impossible. You might still be able to have a 'parallel' engine management ECU, but it's only a matter of time before car ECUs are regulated and REQUIRED.

And if car's become RFID type transponders (they're close now, emitting cell signals, radar, laser, IR) then any car that DOESN'T transmit (because someone 'ripped the effing ECU out') will immediately be identified as suspicious.

To bad that tech. is not in s.fl. Aleast it would keep my mother in law from comming to my house!

Now THAT sounds like a scary thought... It's a good tool to have... but at that point I would start to worry. Not like I have anything to hide or worry about... but I could see how under those circumstances it could be seen as intrusive. But then again... if you are KNOWINGLY driving around with a suspended license or with no insurance... you deserve to get popped.

In New York, the insurance company is required to inform the state DMV if the insurance is canceled or lapsed.
