2007 Infiniti G35 sedan thread (merged thread)
Found these #'s on a G35 forum from octobers motor trend. They tested a 6 speed manual sport package against and BMW 330. They should have tossed in a IS350! Of course the Bimmer won but here are the specs on the G35.
From the Spec sheet:
weight to power - 11.8
306 @ 6800 bhp
268 @ 5200 lb-ft
7500 Redline
Weight 3604 lbs
53/47% - front/rear weight dist.
5.4 sec 0-60
14.0 @ 100.4 - Quarter Mile
112ft - 60-0 braking
.90g avg - Lateral Accel.
2300 - Top gear revs @ 60mph
33k - Base price (est)
36k - As tested (est)
225/50R18 95W (F)
245/45R18 95W (R)

Thanks for posting. I haven't received this magazine yet, but nice to see a teaser about it.
Well power seems about the same with the IS350 with the scale tipping slightly to the IS with more torque. Track times will be a drivers race for sure, but knowing how easy it is to drive the IS350 at the track, my money is not on the G to win very often. MPG seems to be close but tips slightly in the IS350 favor as well. Price is definetely in the G's favor, but you get what you pay for. The interior is just blah IMHO. Overall seems like a great alternative to those who can't afford and IS350 or for those looking to mod quicker with the G's huge aftermarket already established.
oh and I just forgot you said it was a 6sp! Man the G should have done better in the quarter mile, but then perhaps the new G is overrated in power, the IS350 is underrated in power or the IS350 just has a magical auto tranny. LOL
See what I mean? Looks like *****, buttons and things are just pasted on to a background. The instrument cluster looks like a ripoff from Honda and whats up with the orange center screen between the tach and the speedo? Where is the color coordination?
Exterior doesn't appeal that much to me either, but I'm sure the G35 coupe will be much better. I love the look of the current coupe.

Yep from the test it looks like the auto IS350 can take the 6 speed manual G. I'm with you on the interior of the G. I really don't like that big *** **** in the middle of the console. Big eye sore to me!

The interior is ugly i would buy the IS350. The IS is faster because it has more torque and doesnt have to rev so high to get it power also i think the IS is lighter car. Good job lexus.

I think the 0-60 time (5.4s) was slowed by the high temperature and humidity. Motortrend said that the cars were tested under very humid conditions.
As a case in point, the 2006 330i 6MT that they tested alongside the G35 got a 0-60 of 6.2s in this test, which is on the slow side for that car.
C&D got 5.6s for the 2006 330i 6MT, and Motortrend in its 02/06 issue got 5.8s for the 2006 330i 6MT.

Wow only 5.4 for a manual trans G35? I'd expect it to at least match or even beat an IS350 which is obviously auto only. They run almost the same in power ratings and are close to the same weight...giving Inifniti the weight advantage if any?

I'm gonna wait until all the mags run it before coming to conclusions but at this point seems the auto will be slower than the manual.

Holy 0.90g + 7500rpm redline...pretty amazing! This car must be a blast to drive!
The engine makes less torque and its maximum power and torque occur at higher RPMs than the IS350.
Pretty lame that MT didn't include the IS350 in the test. Good job coming up with the first real-world numbers though.

You don't think temperature and humidity make a big difference?
"The new 3.5 is a great engine with enough power to make the IS 350 a very quick car, able to hit 60 mph in 6.0 seconds flat and consume the quarter mile in 14.5 sec. at 98.6 mph…this, on a power-sapping 93-degree summer day."

What we do know is that in this Motortrend test, the G35 outaccelerated the 330i by .8 seconds (5.4s v. 6.2s).
I'd probably wait for some head-to-heads between the G35 and IS350. I'm thinking that the G35 6MT and the IS350 will be equally fast, and the IS350 will be faster than the G35 auto by a few tenths.
I'm not saying that the G35 will be faster. It probably won't be, because of the IS350's superior torque, peak power at lower rpms, and extra gear auto v. auto.

I'm not sure how you can really say that which is faster or slower, since the IS350 wasn't included in the test. We all know that there can be large fluctuations in test numbers based on temperature, humidity and other factors. Numbers for the IS350 have been variable (C&D: 5.1s, Motortrend: 5.5s, R&T: 6.0s, Edmunds: 6.1s).
What we do know is that in this Motortrend test, the G35 outaccelerated the 330i by .8 seconds (5.4s v. 6.2s).

The 330i 0-60 was 5.8 compared to the IS350's 5.2
The 330i 1/4mile was 14.5@96.7 compared to the IS350's 13.8@102.9
