I think this grille, while ugly in some iterations, could have been quite successful and a good way to set apart Subaru. Like the ill-fated Mitsubishi grille, it could have looked good and DID look good in some iterations, like the Impreza or these vehicles:

The R1e

B9 Scrambler

B11S Concept

Like Mitsubishi, Subaru had a potentially good-looking grille but was just too lazy to design it well. If they did, like these vehicles show, it could have been successful.

While the 06 propeller nose on the WRX/STi looked OK, it was only because there was the Tribeca to take the last place position. The 06 is just acceptable, and is plain nasty when compared with the 04/05 look.

I think the Subaru grill is a good concept, as it would give Subaru a house-style (more people would be able to recognize a Subarus if it would continue with the style), but the actual execution was not up to par.

Meh, it felt like less than that. It's probably because I don't see them that often, especially when compared to its omnipresent predecessor.
