Default The Next Toyota Corolla ?

New Toyota Corolla or PRIUS?

Once again, japanese car magazine "DRIVER", which presented pictures of the new Mitsubish Pajero, hits the shelves with nothing less than 4 pages about a new Toyota known as the Orius, this car could actually be the new Corolla (info to be checked) that is awaited on October 23rd in Japan.
So as usual we won't reveal the secrets and keep you waiting one more month before the press conference

Agreed, and although that's not a bad thing, it's kinda nice to have model distinction...

The only thing I have bad for this pic is that the headlights look kinda odd. How the inner side of the head lights aren't flush with the body.

Trust me, that's NOT the new Corolla.

It's most likely a JDM model and perhaps other markets overseas, but not for the US.

If it is, then

Looks less appealing and older than the current one, IMO

Agreed, it is like they took a lateral rather than a forward progression on the design. Wonder if it might be priced signifcantly different from the current.

I agree that the pics I posted do look too conservative and not fresh enough.
Especially for Toyota. As we know, Toyota had to rush a redesign after seeing the Civic because their design at the time was too conservative to compete. Hopefully this is that FIRST design. Maybe the redone version is under wraps.

Lightbulb Delay

Toyota Corolla Relaunch Delayed In North America
Report: Japanese carmaker to push back remodeled sedan to 2008 to maintain quality.
October 7 2006: 12:31 AM EDT

TOKYO (Reuters) -- Toyota Motor Corp will push back the North American launch of its new Corolla from 2007 to 2008 in order to maintain quality, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun (Nikkei) reported Saturday.

Toyota (Charts), Japan's top auto maker, has been plagued this year by a rising number of vehicle recalls. In July, it recalled some 400,000 SUVs in the United States, its single-biggest market.

Sales of the remodeled Corolla are set to start in Japan next week, and the company had hoped to cut the gap between domestic and overseas releases to one year from the usual two, the Nikkei said.

Instead, the company has decided to prioritize quality and start sales more gradually, the paper added.

Toyota officials were not available for comment.

The Corolla is currently manufactured at a plant in Canada and a joint venture plant with General Motors Corp. (Charts) in California, where Corolla production is up roughly 10 percent this year.

The company may have judged that delaying the launch of its new model will have only a limited impact on profits, the Nikkei added.

Toyota last month mapped out a plan to boost global vehicle sales by 11 percent over two years to 9.8 million units in 2008.

Default Redesign Launch delayed? GOOD!

The Corolla is selling quite well; near 400k units a year. Toyota won't be hurt too much by the delay, but they sure will be hurt if there are quality issues.

Give the Corolla some time to roll out. I think that with Toyota having four new cars in the past six months, they need to take a breather...
