in that last pic with the old land cruiser in front, it looks like new one is just a face lift and not a whole new design

Default 2009 Toyota Land Cruiser Preview

Traditional heavy-duty SUVs have fallen out of favor in recent times with buyers heading towards smaller crossover-style soft-roaders in droves. Toyota, the manufacturer of one of the most popular off-road vehicles in the world, is sticking to the same basic formula for its latest Land Cruiser SUV. This means you can expect an affordable full-size SUV with off-road capability and Toyota’s trademark reliability.

These latest renderings reveal that the next-generation Land Cruiser will most likely grow in size and ride a lower platform. It’s also rumored that Toyota’s engineers have developed a new air-suspension system for the new Cruiser, which should be able to raise and lower the vehicle automatically depending on driving conditions.

Toyota’s next Land Cruiser has been spotted in prototype form across the globe, with examples seen undergoing hot-weather testing down under and others seen along rocky outcrops in Eastern Europe. It’s expected to make its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show towards the end of the year with sales expected to start by the middle of next year.

New to the Land Cruiser range will be the addition of Toyota’s 5.7L V8 engine sourced from the Tundra pickup, which will also feature in the upcoming Lexus LX 570 SUV. The VVT-I equipped V8 will come with a six-speed automatic and is likely to develop close to 350hp. There could possibly be a smaller 4.5L V8 turbodiesel engine producing 203hp and 317lb-ft. of torque, with 90% of twist starting from just 1,200rpm. Follow the jump to see the renderings in full.

Thanks for the update Andrew

It doesn't look "muscular" That side view looks like sooo plain, wimpy fender flares (why can't they steal MB's S550s ). So far not liking it

I hope the LX will look much better than this Cruiser.

Truthfully I do not think these pictures are accurate. They are the same Land cruiser we have now, minus some of the body cladding, with a few changes to the front and rear. I'm going to have to say that after 10 years of no change, they are going to do something a little more dramatic, and a little more attractive than this.

Also, 5.7L V8 from the Tundra with "close to" 350 hp? Don't think so.

That just looks like some bastardized amalgam of the current LC and the previous gen LC. I don't think these pics are accurate.

That's for sure a Photoshopped picture, an ugly one that is.

Hope LC looks nothing remotely close to this one.

I hope not, but if so It will surely be my excuse to try a different SUV, if and when I decide to get rid of the one I have.

OMG, this is the fugliest thing I've ever seen. This is positively fuglier than Lincoln Navigator and almost as fugly as Escalade.

One word: FUGLY.

Let's hope the real thing looks far better than that, although the spy photos so far aren't exactly promising.
