Default Acura Announces September Sales Results

Light Truck Sales Reach a Second Consecutive Monthly Record for the Luxury Division

TORRANCE, Calif., Oct. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Fueled by the first full month
of sales of the all-new turbocharged RDX crossover SUV and continued steady
sales of the MDX luxury performance SUV, Acura sold a September record of
5,706 light trucks, up 28.5 percent* versus 2005 and eclipsing the previous
mark of 4,958 set in 2004, the division announced today.

In addition, Acura narrowly missed setting a new all-time September
record, falling short by a scant 311 units. Acura sales for the month
totaled 16,323 units, down 5.6 percent based on the daily selling rate,
with year-to-date sales tallying 149,090 units.

"September was a good month for us," said **** Colliver, executive vice
president, sales. "And we expect October to be even better with the
addition of the all-new 2007 MDX and the new high performance TL Type-S."

Off to a strong start, 1,704 RDX's were purchased during the new
model's first complete month of sales. Meanwhile, MDX posted 4,002 units
during September, bringing its year-to-date total to 37,379.

The TSX sports sedan continued its strong pace with 2,882 units for
September, while year-to-date TSX sales reached 29,837 -- up 6.8 percent
versus 2005.

The TL performance luxury sedan maintained its position as the
top-selling Acura, with 5,334 units sold in September, bringing
year-to-date TL sales to 54,274.

They sold one NSX last month
I would love to be that person though if I didn't have to pay . . .

Reading between the lines, every Acura vehicle was down except a brand new super entry level SUV. Not good. Do dealers have the freshned TL yet? It might not matter with the IS/new 3/new G35

Let's not forget though, YTD sales of every Lexus is down except the new kids, the IS and ES. The IS's big, fat 38,000 YTD sales gain is buoying up Lexus right now.

Only 57 GS430s sold last month. WOW! But I can see why if you can have the 450h for so little more.

Well Mike, the same could be said about Lexus with the IS250/350 right?

Thing is Lexus sells so well, even when they are down, they are still up on most everyone else. Yeah though, I put my foot in my mouth with that one! lol

I'm really surprised that the Fit only sold 2000 units in September. By contrast, Versa sold 4700, and Yaris sold 7500. Are supply issues with the Fit really that bad?

Also, Civic sales in September 2006 were down 16%. That's pretty bad for a new model.

blah, my bet is that they simply dont make enough money on them, so they wont allow more than certain number of Fits...

Since Fit sales around the world dropped by huge margins, story of unavailable cars is ridicilous.

well thats why you have new models - to keep the sales up. It is not an excuse of course, but overall you want to have bigger sales for the year, which Acura is NOT doing.

There is nothing wrong with new models having good sales, thats how whole industry works.

But for how many people criticized GS on these forums, it is doing exceptionally well in market that is overall not doing well - M sold 30% less than GS, 5 series sold 30% less than last year, even E class sold less than before etc, etc, and lets not mention A6 at all.

That's the first thing they note in the PR & I said that just to highlight how they can spin to make things look better than it actually is

Look at the GX holding on last month! up 2 sales (but 1 more selling day in the month)
GS sales are remaining good, seems they will meet the 2,000 sales target for the GS 450h at this rate. GS 350 sales are good and it was a SOFT launch with minimal advertising.
There was a ton of advertising for the GS350. On almost every other street here, there were billboards advertising the GS350. Not to mention the commercial with the 2 GS's.

EDIT: There has also been alot of advertising for the ES and IS. Lexus in general has been advertising alot around here.

As far as I can tell, the SoCal market (Lexus' biggest market overall) had some billboard buys in the past months. In the past few weeks, I have seen RX 350, GS 350, and ES 350 billboards here.

There was the one advertisement for the GS during the US Open and still continuing, the NY ad...there were also other Lexus ads for the brand in general.

...but it's not the same as the 5 ads, magazine blitz, etc. that accompanied the 3 GS launch, I'm guessing?
