Overall, say goodbye to Jag. The new XK is up but 300 sales a month will not hold that brand up from a coupe.

Goodbye Jaguar, u will be missed
No typo. Turns out that Jag stopped selling XJ sedans last month because some of the gas tanks would simply spill their contents on the garage floor after a fillup. They were figuring out what the defective part was and decided to stop all sales until they could get them fixed.

Look for poor sales in Oct. too since they are fixing customer cars before they get to cars on dealers lots for sale.

Default Jaguar sales purr in the UK

Posted Oct 16th 2006 6:54AM by Alex Nunez

When you add it all up, the UK is roughly the size of Wyoming. So when we hear that UK buyers snapped up over 4,421 Jaguar automobiles in September, we raise an eyebrow. We raise the other one when we compare that number against Jaguar's US sales for the same month: a measly 1,150 cars.

In the UK, Jaguar cites the success of the XJ (up 155% vs Sep '05 and 31% for the year) as being a key driver for the month. 67% of the XJs sold were the new-for-2006 TDVi twin-turbo diesel (shown). That success sits in stark contrast to American XJ sales for September, which numbered -- wait for it -- 33 cars. That's a 96% dropoff from '05.

Now, one must remember that Jaguar asked dealers to suspend XJ sales in early September so that a fuel leak affecting a certain range of VINs could be addressed. That request was made on a global scale and may well have been a factor in the America's utterly putrid XJ sales number, but it sure looks like it didn't hurt UK sales at all.

The new XK is doing well in both markets, however, in the UK, sales were up 72% in September, and 74% for the year. Similarly, in the US the new cat is up 73.2% for the year and showed a 125% jump vs. September '05. Still, cumulative Jaguar sales in the United States are down over 32% vs. last year. Imagine how much uglier it'd be if not for the redesigned XK.

PRESS RELEASE:
JAGUAR LEAPS TO SEPTEMBER SALES SUCCESS IN THE UK

* UK sales of Jaguar's XJ saloon rocketed 155% during the vital September month.
* The acclaimed 2.7 V6 diesel version of the XJ claimed over 67% of total September XJ sales.
* The XK sports car's amazing success continued with sales up 74% year to date.
* The new supercharged XKR has now taken 800 advance orders in the UK market ahead of its arrival in Jaguar showrooms in late November.

Jaguar's 97 UK dealers now reporting increased product-led momentum in the marketplace.

Browns Lane, Coventry, 11 October 2006 – Jaguar's UK sales took a leap forward in September, thanks to strong performances by the flagship XJ saloon and highly acclaimed XK sports car.

A total of 4,421 vehicles were sold by Jaguar UK in the key month of September.

Sales of the XJ range were up by 155% - more than double last year's September volume - with the latest 2.7 twin-turbo diesel version accounting for nearly 67% of the total.

This performance by the 2.7 litre twin-turbo diesel XJ proves that it is now firmly established in the diesel sector of the premium F Segment.

Jaguar UK has sold almost 2,000 XJ models so far this year, including more than 50% diesel versions, contributing to an increase for the model of 31% versus 2005. Jaguar has also recently announced the introduction of its long wheel base XJ diesel which is due to arrive in showrooms from early next year.

"We are particularly pleased that our UK sales volumes continue to increase at an unparalleled rate in an increasingly competitive market environment," commented Jaguar UK's Managing Director, Geoff Cousins. "Important new models, – such as the XK sports car and XJ diesel models, are major factors in attracting new customers to the Jaguar brand. It is also encouraging that the S-TYPE Diesel is already establishing itself as the car of choice in the corporate market.

"I also regard our year to date September sales of the XJ (up by over 31% on 2005) as an even bigger achievement than our XK success. By focusing on the XJ and the new XK though, both the brand and our dealers are making good margins which support our premium niche strategy and business."

Following the success of the recently introduced XK sports car, the new supercharged XKR is hot on its heels, with advance orders of 1,500 vehicles globally (800 in the UK market alone) even though it doesn't arrive in showrooms until November.

The XK continues to be one of the most dominant cars in a fairly static sector up 9% this year with sales increased by 74% year-to-date on 2005 and 72% month-on-month.

So far this year, nearly 2,000 UK customers have taken delivery of the new XK and globally, Jaguar has already sold nearly 10,000 with the order bank still growing.

Default Europe car sales fall 2.6 pct. in Sept.

HELSINKI, Finland — Renault and GM lost the most ground as new-car sales in Europe fell 2.6 percent in September, though Fiat, Toyota, BMW and Volkswagen saw sales grow, the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association ACEA said Friday.

France's Renault SA saw the largest drop, slipping 14.9 percent in September compared with the same month last year. It sold 104,815 cars in Europe in September.

Detroit-based General Motors Corp. sold 9.1 percent fewer cars at 141,551.

Sales of PSA Peugeot Citroen SA cars fell 4 percent, while DaimlerChrysler AG only slipped slightly with a 1 percent decline with flatter sales of Mercedes and a sharp drop at its Smart car unit. Ford Motor Co. was down just 0.5 percent, selling more Ford models and fewer Volvos, Land Rovers and Jaguars.

However, other carmakers have made headway.

Europe's largest car company, Volkswagen AG, saw sales rise 2.9 percent to just over a quarter of a million units thanks to better sales of its Audi and Skoda models. It now controls close to a fifth of the European market.

Italy's Fiat SpA saw sales surge 14.9 percent compared with a year ago. Its core Fiat and luxury Alfa Romeo cars proved more popular although Lancia sales were down. The company ended 17 successive quarterly losses by reporting higher profits in the final quarter of last year.

Sales of Japan's Toyota Motor Corp. gained 11.8 percent, while Germany's BMW AG rose 2.5 percent. Nissan Motor Co. fell 27.1 percent to 32,485 units.

In Western Europe, new car sales only increased in Germany, by 4.5 percent, as Europe's largest economy _ and second-biggest car buyer _ finally went shopping after years of little growth.

Car sales dropped 13.3 percent in France, Europe's fourth-largest car market, and by 3.2 percent in Italy. Britain, the biggest purchaser of new cars, saw sales fall just 0.7 percent to 413,991.

ACEA's figures count sales from the 25 nations of the EU as well as Norway, Iceland and Switzerland. Some 1.406 million cars were sold in the region in September, the group said, down from 1.444 million in the same month last year.

Some 56,446 cars were sold in the 10 nations _ mostly Eastern European _ that joined the EU in 2004.

The fast-growing Baltic states host the few booming European car salesrooms, even though overall sales are low. New car sales rocketed 52.4 percent in Latvia, 46.4 percent in Lithuania and 9.7 percent in Estonia. Polish sales also went up 11.4 percent while Hungary dropped 15.1 percent.
