DSG gets better mileage than a manual, shifts far faster and smoother than any human can shift, I guess it just doesnt have the fun factor but thats subjectable, for pure performance DSG is unrivalled

I know, I was just saying that it was a shame they couldn't do that. It could have been a pretty unique technology for them, sort of like Quattro...When someone thinks Audi, they think Quattro. DSG could have been the same I guess.

It's quite possible VW/Audi had an exclusive for some period of time.

Not pre-judging, just want to know what strength you believe a manual has over DSG?

Having driven both I'd say DSG is the biggest no brainer.

DSG= the best manumatic

However, if you want to cut all the b.s, you need 3 pedals. Period.

So does this mean BMW is moving from copying Ferrari to Audi? Hopefully this one is at least twice as reliable as the SMG, but that still is would be pretty unreliable.

I've driven the DSG and it is superior to any automatic. The DSG cannot shift faster than hydraulic clutch systems or race drivers when doing a multiple gear change. The fact that Lambo is continuing to use their E-gear indicates DSG isn't the future just yet, at least for track use.

The reason why Lambo and Porsche does not have DSG yet is they haven't developed it enough to handle the high power of these cars. THe 997 turbo has a conventional manumatic but should move to a DSG tranny in the next couple of years.
