SEOUL, South Korea — Hyundai Motor will start selling its first luxury crossover, the Veracruz, in the U.S. market in December.
The new seven-passenger people mover, slotted in above the Santa Fe, is intended as competition for higher-end SUVs and crossover vehicles.
The Veracruz was formally introduced on Thursday in its home market, and the first official images were released on Hyundai's Web site.
The vehicle clearly is a sibling of the Santa Fe, with softly flowing lines and a fuller figure. It is equipped in the Korea-market version with a 3.0-liter diesel V6 engine that makes 240 horsepower. The full-size CUV will be aimed in the U.S. market at such upcoming domestic entries as the Saturn Outlook and the Buick Enclave, as well as larger Japanese competitors like the Mazda CX-9.
Next year, Hyundai hopes to sell a total of 85,000 units of the Veracruz, including 65,000 in the United States and other markets outside Korea. The automaker has announced no plan so far to build the CUV in the U.S. plant that currently makes the Santa Fe.
What this means to you: Hyundai continues to stake out new design turf that's not quite cutting-edge, but definitely way beyond its earlier efforts.

hyundai is seriously stepping up their game as of late.
that interior looks rather nice...though the blue accent lighting might be a bit much in the long run, but that interior color combination is rather appealing. i wonder how it'll compare to its competition.

Another serious competitor from Hyundai.
I've seen a few of the new Santa Fe's on the road and I'm very impressed. Better looking than about 75% of the SUV's out their. AND it looks really solid and well built. Very tight construction.
As if Japan's cars weren't giving the US automakers enough worries,
now Hyundai's are making them look bad.

This is a very nice truck. Cant believe how much they are stepping it up. Not a fan of the grill, but everything else looks great (yes it does look like an RX inside and out). I like how luxurious the interior looks compared to competitors which look like they were designed on a strict budget. The Santa Fe looks great as well.
