But I'll betcha they aren't intending to 'kill the M3' by being a better M3 than the M3 is... typical Lexus style is they'll play an angle they think will attract some buyers away - like 'here is 90% of the performance and feedback for 70% of the price and with twice the reliability'.
Because even people who are shopping for impractical cars will respond to practicality sometimes.

5.0 liters, V-8, big brakes, suspension changes, bolder looks, 8 speed auto, 415hp...nothing to complain about.
I could give a rats *** if the car is 3 tenths slower in something I won't do
Just glad Lexus is offering an alternative.

I think you miss the point of that article... the term innovation can be defined in a matter of methods..
From that article...

Toyota has done an EXCELLENT job in that regard.
Now.. as it pertains to innovations (loosely defined as "inventions") where is the "Toyota was first" list.
1. Self Parking (Prius)
2. 8 Speed automatic (LS460)
I gave you a start..... feel free to add to that long list

I would think a worlds first is special Clearly if the Germans had it first, oh, it would be the 2nd coming of Christ. Since the Japanese brought it, oh, its overkill or nothing new.
The new tranny weighs as much as the outgoing model with less parts. It allows the LS to have class leading fuel economy and it is better or tied for acceleration.
With less displacment.
