Sombodys got MB envy.
IIHS has gone down the drain from my books ever since Brian O'neal retired. I've read that same stupid seat test, they think fords seat is better because it is structurly weak so it gave more cushion during a crash. I just had to LOL when I read that. I wouldn't be suprised if IIHS are taking money from ford some how.

Secondly whiplash is not a serious injury, it's a minor test compared to IIHS side impact test which detects serious injury or even death.

Toyota's knee airbags definetly work, this could save someone some painful injuries or even joint damage.

I dunno if the crumple zones are any better but after driving my CLK 430 (W208) then getting into a newer CLK (W209) I felt like I could die at any point with how light it was.
I like my W208 for the same reason I like my SC400's.... the new generation of cars just seems like it's not a solid car when comparing the gen before the last.. This pretty much goes for any new car.

This thread is being pushed far off topic, the real question is why MB faired so poorly in side impact tests.
Eurocap had a piece of trim fall off obstructing the side airbag during an Eclass side impact test, IIHS gives the Eclass (and Cclass) an acceptable rating for side impacts, the previous Eclass recieved an accpetable rating for front end impacts.
MB being a leader in safety is more myth than anything else, when asked to provide hard data of their superiority the contradictory is found.

The best way to minimize damage in accidents is not to have them in the first place. I'd take my chances in a C or E class over a wallowy Camry!
Hmmm... no Toyotas/Lexus in this list of 9 IIHS Gold Safety picks...

Must mean Toyota's terrible right? Nonsense.
IIHS, the same people who said the end of the 55 speed limit would lead to tens of thousands more highway deaths - they were COMPLETELY WRONG.
I hope everyone knows the IIHS is not a government agency, it's paid for by insurance companies.

And I don't consider a sore neck an injury.
IIHS tests are far more intense than the lax NHTSA tests.
Today everything gets a 5star rating by NHTSA standards.

Also if you saw the video of the test you will know why test dummy scored a whiplash, the head rests are NOT positioned correctly. Whoever ran that test had no clue on what he is doing.
Think about it, that is something ford or gm would do in order to make them look good and distract people from the problems they have.
