No, and I'd bet you're right that the big majority are not sold with the metal roof. Nice feature, but the weight and cost kind of detract from the concept. Amazingly though it only adds 80lbs.

I also agree with your assessment of this car compared to Porsches. Despite not being a high HP/torque powerhouse, it basically is as much driving fun at half the price. Even though Porsches in general offer a lot more power and much faster 0-60 and quarter-mile times than a non-turbo Miata does, they still, IMO, are grossly overpriced.
Road tests of the Miata put 0-60 around 6.7 and for a (non-S) Boxster at around 6.4 so it doesn't lose much! The Boxster S is faster and of course the 911s are a lot faster.

But I do, however, plan to review a new Boxster in the near future, simply due to the car's popularity and its position, along with the Cayenne, as one of Porsche's two bread-and-butter vehicles.
I look forward to your comments and thoughts on the Boxster (particularly vs. the Miata). Don't get me wrong, the Boxster is nice, although I didn't find it handled as flat as I thought it would, the transmission not as nice as the Miata, and it didn't feel quick. But it was still lot of fun to drive.
