i dont see how one can have 3 rows in a chassis derived from a car chassis, even then the third row in the much larger GX and mid size SUVs arent that big, imagine how bad its gonna be in vehicle the size of an RX, going to have SC430 backseats as seats

Go check out the Pilot, MDX, and XC90. They do a fine job at it.

Just in case people are wondering.. Yes, I want to see the RX sales plummet and be proved right about them not having a third row.

Why? Cause I'm ticked that my wife had to give up a car she loved and move over to one she just likes.

There is a new car in that RX lineup that was not there in 2004/2005. I doubt that even 25% all of those RX400h sales would have gone to the RX330/350.

What do you call quoting one month's number & call it as if it's a trend ? I have seen enough selective data mining in past threads

re: Trend comment...
I'm used to the RX selling 9-10K per month. I'm seeing it now closer to the 8K range with the latest month being 7K. The old RX sold pretty strong right up to the intro of the RX330 (I think?).

With regards to selective data mining, maybe you can share some of the posts you are referring to? Feel free to PM me if you like (to keep the thread on track) or put them here. I'm flexible

there's no way to prove or disprove how much it helps RX sales. Mind you, the RX400h still have only 2 rows of seats. It's like speculating how many people buying a 3 series coupe after it came out would have bought the 3 series sedan anyway, or how many 525i buyers would have bought a 530i anyway, we can never know for sure.
Anyway, it's not unusual at all for manufacturers to keep upgrading & introducing new versions of a model to keep sales up during it's life cycle, everybody is trying to do that. Actually, Lexus didn't began offering more versions of the same model & upgrade the engines mid-cycle until recently, the Germans have been doing that for a long time.

I wasn't necesssarily specifically referring to you, I usually just read them & not take part in those discussions anyway, but I remember them, there are some examples for anybody who had followed these sales thread in the past . They are there to be found for anyone who cares to take the time to search.

Whelp, add me to the list.

(Current Audi owner drooling over the 335i)

My A4 is on a 2 year lease that is just over halfway through at the moment and unless Audi comes out with something that they can/will offer similar lease payments to the 335i coupe (which has a pretty good offer on it... 499/month with around 2500 down I think), then I'm jumping ship too.

I'd really like to buy American next time, too - so I will also be test driving the all new CTS. If it is as good or almost as good as the 335i for the same or less money then I'll probably get the caddy. However my hopes are not 'that' high for the caddy.

Default It's Raining Money: Mercedes-Benz USA's Sales Jump 12.3 Percent In October

http://www.emercedesbenz.com/Nov06/0...n_October.html

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE

FRONT RUNNERS IN AUTOMOTIVE SALES: MERCEDES-BENZ DIESELS and V12s

Mercedes-Benz USA SUVs, Diesels, and V12s Boost Sales for Best October On Record

MONTVALE, N.J. – Election Day may still be a week away, but Mercedes-Benz customers are casting their “automotive votes” through purchases of powerful and fuel-efficient vehicles, all indicators pointing to a positive road ahead for diesel-powered SUVs, like those introduced by Mercedes-Benz in October.

For the ninth consecutive month, Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) has marked record-breaking sales with today’s announcement that the company has achieved its highest October sales ever with 20,598 new vehicles sold, an increase of 12.3 percent over last October. This brings MBUSA’s year-to-date sales to 197,599, a 13.2 percent increase over the same period in 2005.

Building on its heritage as the leader in diesel-powered passenger vehicles, Mercedes-Benz introduced three new diesel models in October – the ML320 CDI SUV, R320 CDI SUV, and the all-new E320 BLUETEC which represents the world’s cleanest diesel technology. MBUSA sold 829 such vehicles for the month and posted a 22.8 percent increase in diesel-powered vehicle sales for the year-to-date (4,282 units).

But fuel economy didn’t overshadow another popular candidate: Power. As a group, Mercedes-Benz V12 models represented an increase of 22.2 percent for the year-to-date compared to the same period last year (1,868 vs. 1,529). V12 models include the CL600, CL65, S600, S65, SL600, and SL65.

Additionally, contrary to industry trends, Mercedes-Benz vehicles in the luxury light truck segment – M-Class, R-Class, GL-Class and G-Class – continued to demonstrate impressive gains with a combined 70 percent increase over last October (6,241 vs. 3,671) and an 84.5 percent increase over year-to-date 2005 (53,595 vs. 29,043).

Highlights for the month include a 4.8 percent increase of volume-leading E-Class sales over last October (4,895 vs. 4,670). In addition, boosted by strong sales of its flagship S-Class model line which showed a dramatic 79.5 percent increase in sales, Mercedes-Benz high-end vehicles (S-, SL- and CL-Classes) as a group marked a 41.5 percent increase compared to last October (3,170 vs. 2,241) and a 51.2 percent increase year-to-date over the first 10 months of 2005 (33,160 vs. 21,930).

Separately, through the Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned program, MBUSA sold 3,835 vehicles in October, an increase of 13.1 percent over last October, bringing the year-to-date total to 39,622 units, a 6.2 percent increase over the same period in 2005.

@ spwolf, re: BMW sales:

Directly from their own PR:

BMW brand sales were up 2.2 percent year-to-date, to 220,885 vehicles
compared to 216,063 vehicles sold in the same period in 2005.
BMW brand sales were down 7.2 percent in October for a total of 20,822
vehicles compared to 22,432 reported in the same month a year ago.
Monthly BMW brand sales reflect the dips that occur when high volume
models undergo a structured changeover, with smaller numbers of the
previous model and a gradual increase in availability of the new model. All
BMW 3 series models received new engines this fall and the company also
introduced an all new 3 Series Coupe in September. In addition, BMW's
Sports Activity Vehicles are receiving significant changes. An all-new 2007
X5 Sports Activity Vehicle will be introduced at the end of the month and a
new 2007 X3 SAV is just arriving at dealerships. As a result of these
introductions, inventories of these models have been kept low.
