You could liken it to the cheap skate who never fixes his air conditioner, even though it costs more to operate in the long run.

Which is better? I really don't know. But I do know that AWD is a niche market. . . and Toyota laughs all the way to the bank, since it's pretty much owning the market right now, in each major distinct segment. That's why they havn't released too many high performance vehicles. . . as it makes more money to sell 100,000 Camry's for $30,000 than 5,000 performance cars for $100,000

why bother doing RWD when u r so good at AWD?
AWD > RWD

RWD is sort of like the half-*** of performance cars IMO

AWD is better than RWD in many areas, but not all the areas. AWD is good for climbing hills, walking on sand, ice, etc. But I think people would rather choose a RWD sport car than a AWD sport car.

yup. . . and in many cases it's less about what is better anyway and more about what people want. . .

Not necessarily. Depends on how the FWD platform was laid out. If you had a FWD platform with the engine's output shaft going straight back ( like the old FWD Subarus or Olds Toronado / Cadillac Eldorado ) it's a piece of cake to do either RWD or AWD. It is more complex when you have a sideways-mounted engine up front because you need more bevel gears or other devices to reroute the power back.
