M5 or S8 ?
#32
Let me get this straight...
You have asked us to compare two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT CARS and tell you which one we should pick because your friend wants your opinion and can not test drive either?
Look - these cars are cross shopped by people that have the money but are clueless about cars and only want the wow factor from their friends.
The S8 should be compared with the new S550 and the M5 should be compared with the .... well I know don't know what it should be compared with....
Tell your friend to make up his own mind or at least two compare two cars that are at least somewhat similar.

Well, Doug........yes and no. They are and they aren't. Both, of course, are high-end, German-designed, high-performance cars, and both cost a LOT of money. But each, of course, is quite different in its chassis layout and drivetrain. The M5 will appeal to the driver who wants the most in steering response, brute acceleration, and will spend most of the time on dry pavement.....the S8, with its much better traction and Quattro AWD, will appeal to the majority of drivers the majority of the time. And the S8, IMO, has far better overall build quality then the new M5. The new 5-series took a big drop in build quality over the old one.

Yes, I agree you can, I've often seen people cross shopping cars in different categories, like between a IS350 sedan & a G35 coupe, an avalon with a G35 sedan, even between a sedan & a SUV. When I bought my SC430, the other alternative final candidate I've narrowed down to is the E500 sedan, & I didn't even consider the CLK500 convertible . . .

Well.....certainly no surprise there. If you're still in the Vancouver area, the climate, much of the year, is generally not conducive to driving a convertible.

Both cars are expensive such as for parts and stuff. But the parts of the audi is very hard to get. They have to be ordered from germany and such. While bmw's parts can be ordered easily. Most of the time dealers have them in stock.

m5 and Lamborghini Gallard0 stock to stock, m5 stood up to it. So its not over rated. Most of the bmws are underrated, such as the 335i. It is rated at 300 hp but when dynoed they are 340hp. They did it so it won't hurt the sales of the m3
