M5 or S8 ?
#46
The S8 has a bigger magnet, but I'd still prefer the M5. The SMG seems to add a lot of function. It can't always be easy to control 500 hp, so the default 400 and push button for 5 seems brilliant. Not to mention perfect drag strip launches every time an S8 rolls up to you. Quattro is great, but who's trying to get anywhere fast in bad weather while cruising in a $90K car?
Echoing what others have said, the S6, Quattroporte and E63 should also be considered. I'd stick with the M5 though. Opinions are great because they can often bring out overlooked facts that are deal-makers/breakers. However the guy's own subjectivity will ultimately decide what to buy.

I agree both cars take a different road. The M5 is on a twisty one, with a lot of curves and straight aways, while the S8 is on more of a nice gentle winding road, with a nice scenic route.
I would go with the M5, because while the S8 is no punk, if anyone ever revved and wanted to go against you, with an M5 chances are 80-90% they are going to get scolded, and what better than by a full sized sedan. Imagine a new corvette getting taken for a ride by a guy with double the doors.
Also while I am not an attention *****, if I am about to drop 80k on a car, I want it to be acklowedged, and the S8 just doesnt do that to me.
Also another important factor that I dont think anyone has brought up is customization, I dont think an S8 would look very nice with say 20-22" HRE's etc. That car is too classy and just needs to stay how it is,
...While the M5 you can slap some three piece 20" on there as well as some suspension work and a nice exhaust, and make for a one of a kind (built to your style) aggressive machine and be the envy of tuning, muscle and luxury lovers.
again I vote M5

Oh, Im not talking about performance, Im just talking about the whole car itself.. Im just sick of hearing about them (M3 this M5 that, M3 is so sick, M3 blah blah blah M5 has M mode) I get annoyed from that, and Im not talking about forums I'm talking about real life... no doubt they are fast though.

There's a WHOLE lot more to driving than just drag racing...which is illegal and dangerous on many public roads.

On top of all that you have f-ing 10 cylinders, and while it might not be up to par like the Audi S8 luxury wise, the M5 is just an animal an untamed beast (at least for a 80k car) and with it you get a nice taste of luxury as well.
If someone handed the keys to a fully equipped S8 or this

Without thinking twice I would ****** the ones with three letters on it
but it all comes down to what you want in a car, luxury vs speed
To me the M5 gives me a better share of both and more where it counts in my book. Both are excellent works of "art" when it comes to family sedans

The new M5's V10 is limited to 400 HP unless you hit a special switch...I don't remember where it is. The switch reprograms the computer and fuel injection for 500 HP and max torque.
