350Z or G35 Coupe?
My friend wants to buy a V6 RWD coupe. He is now considering the 350Z or the G35 coupe. Can anyone tell which is a better choice? Since they are pretty close...

06 for 06, i would go with the Z if backseat/leather/looks didnt matter
you could get an enthusiast Z for at least $5k less than a G. although it isnt as luxurious, it isnt bad with the revised interior. to make up for it though, the car is a little sportier. so to summarize, you trade luxury for sport and also save $5k.
per 07 models, id definitely go Z, as it has the VQ35HR (starting in jan)
per 08, who knows if the Z will still be out but the G will be redone

if the back seat is a deciding factor dont let it be, go sit in the back seat of a G35 coupe, if you can get in that is. The back seat should not exist, hard to get in/out. It only comes down to styling preference, G35 is more elegant IMO and the 350z is more sporty.

i must disagree. legroom is very decent. headroom is is tight if you're taller than about 5'10", at which point you'd probably need to lean back more or slouch.
getting in and out isnt bad at all if you wait for the seat to move completely. obviously its not a cake walk because of the width of the car, but its not too bad.
if you're into performance the Z has a definite edge with a few more aftermarket parts, a more driver oriented cockpit, and additional chassis bracing. if you dont push the cars to their limits the differences probably wont matter as they are very close, but they're there. pre 04 the G feels more stable while the Z feels edgier but 'choppy' on the road. they improved the Zs suspension to fix that choppyness after that though.

The Z, of course, has some retro styling features from the original car ( especially the 3 high-mounted center-dash gauges ), and will appeal more to the hard-core sports-car enthusiast, especially the aggressive Track version, but, IMO, the G35 coupe is much nicer as a daily driver. It is not quite as harsh over bumps and road irregularities, has at least a kiddie-sized back seat you can put stuff in, is a little more plush inside, and, not having only 2 seats like the 350Z, may even be a little cheaper to insure........insurance companies often hit 2-seaters ( unfairly, IMO ) with surcharges.
I have been after Infiniti, for several years, to do an AWD version of the G35 coupe like the G35X AWD sedan.....the hardware is already in place on the sedan version, and would not require any more significant engineering or expense, but Infiniti marketers, to date, have not done so, despite the fact that they, by their own admission, have gotten numerous suggestions for that....not just from me.

If I had gotten in a Z before I bought the G35 I maybe would have chosen the Z. The Z has a more comfortable seat and lots of legroom.
On the other hand, the G35 has a better ride, which I prefer and looks more upscale...which I also prefer. I love the G35 but hate the seat. The quality of it is fine. It's a racing type seat with high side bolstering which makes it too narrow for a wide butt/back 270 pounder like me. The seat adjustment controls sitting under your butt is the stupidist thing I have ever come across. Still love it though.

both cars are great cars. If you have the money then go with the g, but the price difference is not that much. I don't see a g w/ turbo upgrade and modifiing the engine but its up to you. Now the z, if you want to have fun and upgrading a lot of things then go for it.

I'd prefer the G35 simply because of the better ride, more luxury, and backseats. Another problem with the Z is the blind spot is horrible. I'd rather get a S2000 (which I did) than a Z.
