I'd guess the translation of that corporate speak is: We had too many phone calls, e-mails, other, over what appears to be a Gay oriented ad.
Just look at the brand recognition on here alone, no way people thought that was an MB, Audi or Ford commercial or had any question it was a Lexus product showcased in the ad, the buzz on here alone proves the merit of that ad for unquestionable brand recognition.
Some group of bigots got their knickers in a knot and complained.

Probably more like 5% at most.

Somehwere in between both your percentages, that would be 20 Million Americans, nearly, if not equal, the entire population figure of Australia, and in excess of many nations' populations.
Either way, no small amount of people, many of which are in a position to help make or break records of a car manufacturer's annual sales.
Also, noteworthy, is that you do not see Gay people trying to inflate Kinsey figures, they aren't running around saying, that is too low, we are actually 15 percent of the population, they seem to work with what was placed on them, what they were TOLD was their percentage of the population, they didn't pull those numbers out of a hat themselves. In stark and revealing contrast you do see groups, some of them known anti-Gay outfits, chronically running around trying to deflate the Kinsey figures and they were not and are not in the sex research business. So you have to ask, just what is their motive for doing what they did, other than maybe allowing a lessor group number to somehow make it ok that they are discriminated against or receive worse treatment.
Lastly, even in some of the responses here, you can see a very narrow view of that commercial just as you see a wider view. The narrower view is that it is just two male neighbors with the assumption that they are straight men whose wives surprised them, when for all we know they could just as easily be Gay male neighbors whose sig other bought the car for them, or they could just be close male friends.

Absolutely. In no way was I trying to imply it's a small number of people - just pointing out the "1 in 10" has been stomped on a lot, and not just by homophobic or religious groups with agendas.

let me say that lexus and team one never said that the ad would being pulled because people got the impression that the men were gay. they simply stated that the ad received significantly lower scores from people polled as compared to the other 2 dec to rem ads. why the scores were lower and specific feedback was not made available to the dealers, and thats typical protocol, i dont think they are trying to hide anything here.
