Question Navigation Question

My mother is getting a 07 Toyota Sequoia with nav. and I was wondering....if I could use her nav disc and change the firmware of my 06 IS350's nav disc so that I can get the updated map?

From what I know of the NAV system, updating the firmware will not get you a new Map, and it will also remove the Input Overide.

You would probably require her full DVD and give her your 06 disc.

firmware and maps are two seperate deals. the firmware is copied off the disc and into the hardware then you can remove the disc. the maps or software resides on the disc and stays with the disc wherever it gets moved to.

Ok so if I use her disc with my disc's firmware I would get the updated map? Is it even compatible or is it different from Lexus to Toyota(cant image it would be but...) I just dont want to pay 200+ for the 07 disc and have my overide hack removed....

I was under the impression that once you put an updated disk in there that it will no longer be backward compatible with an older version.

correct, it will copy the new firmware over, you can't avoid that. so once you put in the new disc, it's "done deal", you can't go back.

For_Sale, if you do it, make sure you buy a new original copy of the disc, coz' your old disc is useless (if the new disc doesn't cause any problems)

yes, you can go back. You just need to do a full reboot of the NAV system. It's been explained in the other threads.

But you also need the old disc,...pull NAV fuse with old NAV DVD inserted in DVD drive will reflash firmware, according to Technique's thread.
