Pontiac Solstice Coupe Concept
Pontiac Solstice Coupe still on the table . . . . . .

Building a coupe version of the popular Pontiac Solstice would be a "very logical thing to do," GM Vice Chairman and product planner Bob Lutz told Winding Road magazine at a media event. Lutz acknowledged adding new bodystyles is a good way keep consumers interested in a model when the "new" wears off after a couple of years.
Lutz said any possible Solstice Coupe would look "exactly" like the Solstice Coupe Concept shown in 2002. He said it was always GM's intention to build the coupe, but priority went to the roadster. Lutz made it clear GM had no plans for a hardtop convertible version of the Solstice roadster.

Looks lke a good potential replacement for the now-discontinued Chrysler Crossfire.
Though the Solstice is a nice roadster, IMO it needs a hardtop option for safety. One of the things critically lacking in the open-top version ( a friend of mine bought one a couple of months ago and I checked it out while helping him buy it and did a mini-review ) is adequate rollover protection, which is surprising with all the Federal Safety standards today. The roadster may have reinforced windshield pillars, but it doesn't have anything else.....no roll bar, no pop-up safety bars like on some convertibles, and no U-shaped hoops behind the 2 seats. And the top of windshield pillar, even if reinforced, only comes up to about my neck or chin when I am comfortable in the driver's seat. Same with its brother roadster, the Saturn Sky.
