Anyways both BMW and Lexus are doing exceedingly well, and Toyota has higher profit margins than BMW.

What Gene was saying is that without the gains by the IS and ES models, Lexus sales would not have been too hot.
But enough of that topic
I am surprised that XC90 sales and A3 sales were down for December. The XC90 got a nice new engine and the A3 (at least in 4cyl trim) has not gotten a bad review yet. Thoughts anyone?

First off, WTF does BMW have to do with that statement? Pointing at other manufacturers to somehow add "credibility" to your statement seems to be a trend here and in other threads. Please stop the shell game and address the post head on.
Back on topic..
How is my comment "hypothetical". The reality is that Lexus Car sales would in fact show a significant drop had it not been for the new IS. Is that such a bad thing?

Its ridiculous.
Lexus was flamed b/c the IS sold poor in its first gen and ES sales were down before the redesign. Now the IS is kicking *** and the ES met sales targets and Lexus is still getting flamed.
I don't even see ridiculous anti-Lexus statements like those on BMW forums. But I get to login here everyday and read it.

Ofcourse they do. Toyota has higher profit than BMW, and according to Businessweek, Lexus is the most profitable division Toyota has.
With profit margins almost double those for nonluxury vehicles, Lexus sales go a long way toward explaining how Toyota earned $4 billion from North America alone last year.

amazingly, BMW fans were nowhere to be found in past 3 months ... lol.

Of course, BMW is more reliant on their cheapest model - 3 series than Lexus is on ES or IS or RX or LS...
