Default GM Opens "Fuel for Thought" Exhibit at Epcot Center

To the operating room, and step on it! GM is donating a fleet of these toy Hummers to children's hospitals across the United States.

Date posted: 01-10-2007

DETROIT — The thinking is that if you can get a kid to pin a poster of a Porsche on his bedroom wall when he's 6, he'll buy the sports car when he gets his first big bonus as an adult. Apparently, that philosophy is alive and well at General Motors.

The Detroit automaker on Tuesday announced that it will roll out a "Fuel for Thought" display this week at Walt Disney World Resort's Epcot theme park in Orlando, Florida. The exhibit includes a trivia game about hybrid technology, a "Stalk Car" racing game, and a memory game where participants match photos from a fuel-cell marathon. There's even a larger-than-life popcorn machine to convey a message about the benefits of E85, the alternative fuel derived from corn.

The General also said it donated ride-on Hummers to pediatric hospitals nationwide this month. The pint-sized SUVs are used to get patients more easily away from the arms of their parents and into the operating room for procedures such as tonsillectomies.

What this means to you: We can hardly wait to see the copycats get hold of this idea. Soon the wards of children's hospitals will look like parking lots.

GM should be marketing to healthy kids. You never know what will happen to those pediatric patients.

That sounded mean-spirited and evil...
