Hagerty Unveils Its Picks for Tomorrow's Hottest Collectibles
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich., Jan. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Tomorrow's collector cars
are parked in garages and sitting on showroom floors across America. To
help consumers sort out the next generation of sweet wheels, McKeel
Hagerty, CEO of Hagerty and a respected collector car valuation expert, has
compiled his choices for Hagerty's Top 10 Future Collector Cars.
In determining the Hagerty Hot List: Top 10 Future Collector Cars,
Hagerty analyzed the reasons today's collector cars are such hot
commodities: pop-culture popularity, limited production numbers and the
style of the next generation of collectors. The company included a wide
range of models that span market segments and price ranges: cars that are
more affordable, fun to drive and still enticing for future generations.
Hagerty's Hot List:
* Toyota FJ Cruiser
* Mini Cooper
* Lotus Elise
* Dodge Viper
* Acura NSX
* Toyota Scion
* Audi TT
* Jaguar XK
* Chrysler 300
* Smart Car
"Many consumers may be driving a future collector car right now!" says
Hagerty. "Our goal was to find cars that drivers find appealing now, and
that they may consider nostalgic in 15 to 20 years. Each car on Hagerty's
Hot List possesses a 'buzz,' a Wow Factor that resonates with consumers of
all ages, many cars being daily drivers that turn heads already."
With hundreds of thousands of car enthusiasts flocking to the
world-renowned Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction and six other auction
houses in Scottsdale, Ariz., to ring in the collector car auction season --
some may wonder: Who can afford a collector car? With Hagerty's Hot List,
you don't need to break the bank to get a hot and value-appreciating ride.
All you have to do is wait.
"Unlike the vagaries of the stock market, certain models not only
retain their value but escalate in popularity and price far beyond
expectations," says Hagerty.
Hagerty is the leading insurance agency for collector vehicles and
boats in the nation, and host to the largest network of collector car
owners. Hagerty offers collector car insurance, financing and roadside
assistance as well as a variety of useful information resources. The
company works proactively on hobby legislation and supports the Collectors
Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preservation of the
hobby. For more information, call 800-922-4050 or visit http://www.hagerty.com.

The market for collector cars is so "through the roof" right now it only makes sense that fools will speculate that everyday cars will be the next collectors model. Unfortunately, IMO, the vast majority that feel that something like a 300c could possibly have ANY potential collector value truly have very little automobile knowledge. Limited production, timeless style, niche vehicle. These are some of the reasons a car can become a collectible.
The NSX, Viper (to an extent), Elise. All have decent potential to be a real collectibles down the road. This can already be evidenced by the resale values. (Older Vipers struggle a bit here).
Choices like the Scion, 300c, and FJ are rediculous. Even an SRT-8 300c has marginal potential at retaining value.
Writers that "create" these lists ALWAYS seem to forget that the collectible car market has EXPLODED around the musclecar years. That time in automotive history will NEVER be repeated. Additionally, the love affair with the automobile has waned extensivelly since the late 60's/early 70's. Does one truly believe that the 12 year olds of today will still be yearning to own a 2006 Scion when they are 40???? Of course not.

Look at all the resurrected and retro 60's V8 (or V10) musclecars we STILL have today...and some new names as well.
Pontiac GTO
Pontiac Grand Prix GTP
Ford Mustang GT, Cobra
Ford GT
Dodge Charger R/T, SRT-8
Dodge Magnum R/T, SRT-8
Dodge Challenger R/T( upcoming )
Dodge Viper SRT-10
Chevy Corvette coupe and convertible, Z06
Chevy Camaro coupe and convertible ( upcoming )
Chevy Impala SS
Chrysler 300C SRT-8
And, while a few of these are front-drive V8's, the majority are traditional front-engine V8 / rear-drive American muscle.
TODAY is the best market we have seen for these cars in almost the last 40 years,

Scion is a brand not a car. And no, I don't think Scion's are gonna be collectible. They're just fashionable commodities and will soon be forgotten once their replacements are out.

I tend to agree. Basically, the xA and xB ( and even the Toyota Yaris ) are just rebodied Toyota Echos.

there have been about 50K S2000s sold in the US. Thats about one year production of the C6 or 350Z.
I don't find this list to mean much. The Exige is more rare than any car on that list.
Also production runs of GT2/GT3s as well as all Z06s would be more desirable than a Mini or FJ or 300C (etc..)
I wonder about those Honda Insights b/c they didn't sell a lot of them or the early Prius (who knows?)
