As Toyota becomes larger they are learning what the big 3 already know, the higher your volume, the more chances of assembly/parts/quality problems, expect more of this as they surge toward # 1.

Toyota said the recall involved 2004-2006 Tundra trucks and 2004-2007 Sequoia full-size SUVs. The automaker has received reports of 11 accidents and six injuries connected to the recall, said Toyota spokesman Bill Kwong.
Not quite dead people yet, but close enough...

Did you rehearse your talking points?

Nice spin. I've never met an owner happy that there's a recall. Most feel like they bought a lemon even if it's not true.

Toyota/Lexus should do the right thing and engineer ones that will last on the GS and replace them free of charge as lower ball joint failure can lead to serious accidents and thousands of dollars worth of damage and owners should not have to pay out of their pocket to do this. They really should be designed to last the life of the car or at least 300K miles since there are serious consequences with their failure and it is sometimes difficult to determine if they need replacing unless you take them off the car and inspect them which is a pain to do.
Thanks for posting gene

Or do what MB did for their gauge cluster recall. Owners get reimbursed if they replaced out of pocket (after warranty expired).

I don't understand why the gs ball joints are horribly designed. I've had corollas, current previa, and others way over the 100k miles and not a hint of problems.

Well I've never met anyone who considered a recall a lemon. People will buy from the same mfg after a car has been recalled.

they guys at tundrasolutions seem happy the issue is being taken care of.

or we can say that it dropped by more than 60% in 2006 :-).

Or as stats showed before, Toyota, in past 5 years, is lowest recalled brand of top 6 brands in the USA, INCLUDING honda

:-).

I owned a manufacturing company and the one thing I can point out is this: when what your competition does in error enters into a serious discussion about what you are not doing correctly, you are in trouble and will enable yourself right to the top of the error heap with that line of thinking.

It's called spin, and some are better at a spin cycle than a Maytag but it is destructive to forward progress in any company.

The only thing about that is despite the increasing number of recalls, Toyota still has otherwise good quality with other things. As an example, their engines have a strong record of high durability. It's not as common to see a Chrysler with 100k+ on it and still going strong.

I'd say any car built today can do 100k easily. Now whether anyone would WANT to spend 100k mi. in some cars is another issue entirely.
