It's about time that TOYOTA introduce second gen Highlander. It will grow much larger this time around since RAV4 was pretty big already.

Having some Highlander friends on the net (only have seen a few down here, along with RX300s), I know they will be pretty happy to finally see an update to what I consider the brother of my RX300.

Looks like the speculation is laid to rest. Toyota will have an all new Highlander Hybrid, only 3 - 4 years after the current Highlander Hybrid came out. Rumours are that the new Highlander is based off the Avalon platform now, and no longer off the Camry platform. Technically though, the Avalon platform is a highly-modified Camry platform. HP is said to be in the 270 - 285HP range. If it's 285HP, Toyota will have class leading power in the segment, beating out GM's new CUVs. Toyota may possibly even beat GM's CUV hybrids to market with the new Highlander Hybrid.

It will have the 3.5 liter V-6

I bet it gets the 3.5L like the GS450h, RX450h would be awesome. Much better fuel #'s than the RX400h more power too.

I hope not. If they want to target better fuel economy they are for sure going for a FWD platform. Current RX400h already has significant torque steer. Unless they come up with a great design to counter that...

The Highlander came out in 2001 and I think it is based on the old RX platform.

This is one car that has been way overdue for a re-do and I'm hoping they have the smarts to put a 3rd row in it. The new Acacia looks ot be formidable competition.

The old RX platform is based on Camry platform as well. Current highlander has 3rd row seat also. It's has some decent room back there but when the 3rd row seat is up then there's almost no cargo space at all.
