Also, Mercedes never had a quad headlight design until years after Lexus did it first with the SC400/300. I love how people give Mercedes credit for doing it first.
When MB incorporates a park assist system (which they're suppose to be doing this year), people years from now will say MB invented that.

The first image in this thread...
Looks gorgeous...
I really hope this car improves on the E-class in every possible way, and if this styling is the direction, it does on the exterior aspect. Just hope the interior is more S-class/Audi than C-class.
And the GS headlights? Imitation is this sincerest form of flattery!

didnt some older classic benz's have dual headlights, i remember of a model being stacked one on top another but never side by side that i can recall
they are in competition, its only good business they bite a little off what will help make a sale...every car company does it!

I hope that Benz will do an extensive rigorous testing like they did on the W204 C-Class, as the E-Class is the best selling model in the Benz lineup. I'm sure that they will make the interior as gorgeous as the S-Class.

The old E-class never had an issue with rust (the entire car was galvanized), so I'm not too sure what you're talking about.

Anyway, I don't like the low belt line in the front with the newer models. Maybe when we see an unveiled model I'll form a stronger opinion. I also see they've kept the quad headlight design in the second pics. Looks like it from what I can tell.
Keep in mind the first photo is only an artists rendering.

wow thats really 3 GS ish
i guess imitation is the closest form of flattery
id love to see the real car instead of this CGI
when is the new E class due to be facelifted?
old E class were built like a rock
my dad has a 94 E320, it has no rust, no problems mechanically
only some rubber hoses had to be replaced due to age
electrically, very very minor problems
the whole car is just solid and thats why hes still keeping it around
I really hope the new E class can be like the old ones too

So why didn't Benz redesign it sooner?
BTW, I posted those pics to show that Lexus couldn't have copied MB. Just look at them yourself. If anyone thinks a '90 LS400 looks like any previous Benz then they need to see an eye doctor. The LATER S-classes began to look more like the refined LS400.
Can anyone honestly show an example of Lexus copying MB?

Agreed on the lack of resemblance. There are some surface cues which the LS used, the two-tone treatment etc, but the Lexus distinctiveness was there. The LS 430 however did have a much closer appearance, but that was the exception.

LS400 (not that different). So again, how did they copy MB when MB's more modern model came after Lexus?

I don't know if it's really 3 gen GSish, maybe in the headlights probably. One thing, I've always loved about the E-Class is the fact that it's quite roomy, and has a useable trunk space, for a midsized sedan.
Like, I said it'll be very interesting to see this E-Class dressed up with a AMG bodykit or Sports Package.

So a 1990 and '91 model isn't a 90's model?? Also, I never referred to it as a "'90's S-class". Reread my posts.
