Default Report: Toyota will only build 1,000 Lexus IS-F for US

We have some bad news for all Lexus fans. It is reported that Toyota will be building only 1,000 Lexus IS-F sedans for the United States. Look at the bright side, you guys will be the lucky few to have the car and show it off to your fellow BMW M3 drivers.

For those of you who don’t know the Lexus IS-F, it was launched at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show and is a high-performance Lexus IS version that will compete with the BMW M and Mercedes AMG models. The Lexus IS-F has a 5.0 liter V8 engine that produces more than 400 horsepower and 350 ft-lbs. of torque giving the car the ability to do 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds. Read Article

Is this 1,000 for the whole production run? Is the IS-F only going to be sold for one model year and thats it? Or is it going to be 1,000 over the remaining span of the 2IS?

This is based on an Autoweek magazine report. There are suggestions on several sites that this is inaccurate and that they may have mixed up the numbers with the LF-A.

So it's possible that the 1,000 number refers to copies of the LF-A...or the IS-F.

lol its gotta be for the LF-A

judging from the success of M3, it would be very very stupid of lexus tol limit IS-F to 1000 for the US only

If this is true...it would be a very bad move on Lexus's part.

Can also be a ploy to pep up or test actual demand, and if successful enough they will increase the production.

The article claimed 0-60 in less than 4.9 sec. If it's doing 0-60 mph in 4.9, the owner/driver of the IS-F will have a really hard time trying to show it off to those fellow BMW M3 drivers. They can barely show it off to the 335i.

That 4.9 sec. report doesn't mean anything, even the IS350 *can* be as fast as that under ideal conditions, Lexus claimed "under 6 seconds" only when they introduced the IS350 . . . & I think that report is inaccurate anyway with the 1000 cars, they probably confused it with the LF-A as said above . . .

If this is true, it will give another reason for the dealerships to jack up the price.

I stand by what's been posted already... I think it's a mixup with the LF-A

The reason they are doing this is too ease into their new approach and to test interest. Lexus has never made a really high performance car before, so before they go making 34059835 cars, they have to test the interest in people. I sure as hell am interested though!

Wouldn't surprise me. Bear in mind this was a 'skunk works' effort by Lexus' own admission, the IS-F more like a heavily modded car than a new model.

I'm saying maybe they only have capacity to make that many, or maybe they only want it as a halo model to sell more regular ones.

Old news ... already been proven false. IS-F will not have a 200 mph top speed. According to Flipside and what Bob Carter himself told him, IS-F top speed will be 160 mph.

The report is likely mentioning the LF-A, not the IS-F.
