Yeah its sad b/c the Phaeton is quite and outstanding luxury car but the badge kills it.
VW is still hellbent in going upmarket. They just hired a bunch of old Audi staff to join VW to help them push upmarket.

I don't think we will get the 2nd gen of this car in America.

What would make you say that?

Only thing that comes to my mind is Porsche, but I don't see Porsche axing VW.

The Phaeton sells decently in Europe, but had horrible sales in North America, because there is no market for it here. Similarly if Toyota sold it's Century here in North America, there would be no market for it.

I might have lost my temper and taken a razor blade to the side of his car car and maybe taken off half of the police decal.

Excellent analogy right there. Because thats what VW needs to realize. Fall back and let your luxury division prosper on its own instead of cutting into it's target audience. Mind you I actually liked the Phaeton. I'm just not paying 80K on something that oozes "I eat baloney sandwiches". If I'm dropping 80K on anything, call me shallow, but I want you to know it. You should smell the rich dammit!!

sorry, it sells terribly in Europe as well. S class outsold it 5:1 in Germany, and A8/7 series outsold in 2.5 to 1, despite Phaeton being much cheaper vehicle...

I doubt they sell more than 10,000 per year, around the world.
