I would chime in and say that the V1 is probably the best radar detector as well but honestly I cannot say it is the best all around because it falses too much. To me it doesn't matter how many tickets it saves you from or how far away it can pickup radar, it just isn't the ideal detector overall simply because of the false alarms. Especially in this day in age where other detectors are able to screen those false alarms without sacrificing quality, range, etc.

So that's why I am trying out the 9500i, to see if this is a reality. Has someone really figured out how to minimize the false alarms? If they have, I would say, specifically for me, where radar/laser is not a very big threat, and 95% of the time when my V1 goes it, it's not the police, I may have to rethink the phrase "the V1 is the finest overall radar detector on the market."

And check the above article out from the Wall Street Journel just in case you think I'm trying to BS you.

That's all good and all... but you seriously need to check your hostility over this thread. You seem to be getting very adgitated when someone doesn't agree with you. So, just chill... have a cup of joe and chill. It's a radar detector... not the equation that will solve all world hunger. So what if someone doesn't agree with what you post... so what if they don't see eye to eye with you. My post was about personal opinion and my personal experience with the V1... if you haven't had the V1 or have only had the joy of using other brands then so be it... voice your opinion and move on. Don't come back to bash anyone's responses just because they vary from yours.

In that same aspect, I'm sure you could find someone to argue whether or not buying anything other than a product with a Bowtie or Blue Oval is unAmerican... But it comes down to personal preference... if you dont like Ford or Chevy... Fine... but don't try to force it down others throats.

If you don't like the V1 from past personal experience, then say so. All that you have provided us is with links to some report that says something that benefits your cause... and I'm sure you know that reports can be skewed to say whatever they want them to say and not always the truth.

Back on topic...

I love the V1 it doenst false as much as some would have you belive. Perhaps they have an older version of the software.

But the range on this thing is insane, I will take an occasional X band false to get over a mile of warning any day of the week

I was just reading up on the Betronics STI Driver. Is this the same model as the 9500i, or is the 9500 even better? Anyone know? And if anyone out there already has the 9500, do you like it, and is the false alarm thing working out?

This thread is a riot. Just to get you law breakers up to speed...

1) Who actually loses a airplane speeding ticket. Those are pretty much a easy win in court.

2) Who buys a radar detector for their motorcycle? You actually STOP when a cop tries to pull you over on your bike?!

3) Radartest.com is a worthless sham review site where the "unbiased" webmaster is a paid shill. Try to email him sometime

4) Radar detectors are over priced and unecessary if you have a good lawyer.

V1 if you must waste your money, or put that $400 towards 4 "get out of ticket" fees for a lawyer. If you are getting more than 4 speeding tickets in 5 years... slow down.

What do they mean by "GPS based"? I don't see any screen with a map on it showing exactly where the cop is. Until I see this, the V1 is the superior detector.....period.

I would rather not have to pay my lawyer $300 every time I get a speeding ticket which in the end would cost a lot more than the V1 itself. Now the V1 has saved me from wasting countless hours of time pulling over, stopping, and talking to the cop, and then wasting my time talking to my lawyer, and also wasting my time sitting in court and all the stress that comes with the court system.

The V1 is not a joke and it saves you a lot of headaches.

My buddy has the V1 and I have the 8500 X50...personally I don't see the difference besides the fact that his is big/ugly and has arrows...in any case, I haven't gotten a ticket since I got it and it looks cool with the blue led display...v1 might have a 50ft buffer over mine? maybe its the other way around? who really cares? i mean its 50ft.....its pretty much a toss up IMO....

Who cares what it looks like? I mean it an electronic box. As long as it's the best at its job and tells you exactly where the cops are I will continue to keep and use the V1 with it's form following function design and I will continue to send it in for internal upgrades when needed to make sure that is is on the cutting edge.

BTW there is a reason for the magnesium case with the black powder coating on it, something about not giving off radar signatures itself. For some reason whenever I drive by someone using a Passport I always get a brief x-band radar signature and it's quite annoying so I end up just jamming his signal.

What are you talking about. How do you jam his signal?

I think it really is just opposite from that. The passport is just causing a false alert on the V1.

Man these threads are always fun. Different detectors work better/worse for different people in different areas. For me, I used a V1 for 8 years in California and loved the little bugger. I moved to Toronto and it started falsing literally every 10 seconds; it was non-stop even on the highway in the middle of nowhere. I contacted Valentine and even though the support was good we couldn't come to a resolution. I bought an 8500 and it works great. I miss the arrows, but I find *for me* the 8500 has better range and is more reliable with its warnings.

You will love it until the local police set up a speed trap in the place you turned off all the false alarms....
