I just read Radar Roy's review of the new Escort 9500i at http://www.radarroy.com/archives/37 and I am sold. One key feature is that you can mark speed cameras based on their location and then you can share your camera locations with other users. It's only a question of time before users get together and create a shared list of all speed traps and speed cameras. Wow.

I think that's the same guy on radarbusters.com....I think I saw a picture of him once with like 10 different detectors on his windshield....anyways he has really good reviews...

I didn't realize there was this much tension in the radar detector world....i say if you spend over $300 you're getting a pretty good detector.... just my two cents

I really wish there was a consensus number one because I'll be shopping for a radar detector very soon

I've been casually following the V1/Escort debate for like 5 or 6 years now, and it still hasn't been resolved. I have no problem with paying extra for the best detector, but it's just frustrating that there is no 'best' detector. I want the low false alarms/range of the Escort with the arrows of the V1 (I think Valentine has a patent on the arrows or something, which is why no other company has them ), it's too bad you can't have it both ways, even if you're willing to pay

Don't let couple falseys stop you from getting a radar detector, little miss sunshine! For 5, 6 years! With the price of one ticket(knock on wood) you can recoupe that detector already!

[QUOTE=Stage3;2425125]That's all good and all... but you seriously need to check your hostility over this thread. You seem to be getting very agitated when someone doesn't agree with you. So, just chill... have a cup of Joe and chill. It's a radar detector... not the equation that will solve all world hunger. So what if someone doesn't agree with what you post... so what if they don't see eye to eye with you. My post was about personal opinion and my personal experience with the V1... if you haven't had the V1 or have only had the joy of using other brands then so be it... voice your opinion and move on. Don't come back to bash anyone's responses just because they vary from yours.

In that same aspect, I'm sure you could find someone to argue whether or not buying anything other than a product with a Bowtie or Blue Oval is unAmerican... But it comes down to personal preference... if you dont like Ford or Chevy... Fine... but don't try to force it down others throats.

If you don't like the V1 from past personal experience, then say so. All that you have provided us is with links to some report that says something that benefits your cause... and I'm sure you know that reports can be skewed to say whatever they want them to say and not always the truth.

Back on topic...[/QUOTE

I never, ever said I don't like the V1......how could I since I've never used or owned one. I bought the Passport only after doing years of research first. My choice was always between the two brands. Of course I realize the V1 is a wonderful unit. Performance is pretty much equal so it came down to price and looks..........the Passport won for me.

I only suggested our readers do a little more homework and discover other opinions. The fact that C & D gets in bed with whoever provides the juice is 'well documented'. So perhaps if this information goes counter to your opinion maybe you need to stop, look and listen and have that cup of decaf.....OK? ME? I'm just fine and have 'definitely' moved' on.

So rather than say: Have a nice day my motto is: Make it a nice day

The V1 is not a joke and it saves you a lot of headaches.
You sound like you have never hired a traffic attorney. Paying the fine is actually more work than hiring an attorney. You are also over paying if you pay over $120 a ticket to a lawyer.

Here is how it goes, get pulled over (yes its a hassle no argument there). Then get home, fax over the ticket, mail in a check, wait 4 monthes, get a letter saying ticket dismissed. There isn't any stress, in fact I would find a box beeping at me more stressful than driving carefree anywhere in the county. You never have to meet with the lawyer or spend a minute in court. Its actually a very easy process. Its so easy I find it hilarious anyone actually pays these tickets or spends money on radar detectors. I have referred this guy to at least a dozen people and he has NEVER EVER lost. Once you learn what is really going on in the court you'll see unless you are driving over 100MPH, you will "win" everytime (its not even a fight its just a shakedown from your local town to increase revenue). They want their money, you want a clean record, the lawyer wants to make a quick buck. They walk into court with 100+ tickets to fight them all, the court caves and instead accepts thousands of dollars (part of your money to your lawyer goes to this). Everyone wins, no wasted court time.
Maybe I just have a good lawyer, but its such easy money I can't imagine other traffic lawyers not pulling the same thing in other cities.

I'm sure it is different for every state / city. I've hired traffic lawyers for several tickets, and they are never totally dismissed. They are always put on "deferred adjudication", which means I have to pay the full fine, and not get another moving violation for 6 months. The court winds up getting much more money this way, since they don't have to share it with the state.

Check out the web site. ESCORTRADAR.com. It explains how they deal with that.

Hi guys !
I'm newbie on your site and I'm wondering how to hide a Valentine V1 on my new IS250.
Is there anybody who has experience on that ?
I wouldn't destroy the cockpit !
Thanks for your help.

WOW, that Escort 9500i sounds very promising. I currently have the 8500. About 4 years old, but it still does a great job.

However, $450 is quite steep for the new model. About $150 more than what I paid for mine.

guys i am so disappointed in my v1. yes it's a great detector and it has amazing range and it has saved my butt so so many times over the years. but the 9500i simply doesn't false like the v1, not even close. and we're not even talking about using the 9500i gps lockout feature. in so many places, the v1 would go off and the 9500i never will go off in the first place, it's sad. if the 9500i turns out to perform really well with real radar, it's gonna be hard to beat. sure i have some other 9500i gripes but so far so good. and the v1 power plug works on the 9500i so all i did was take down the v1 and put up the 9500i. here in ks, 95% of all alerts are non-leo so falsing to me is important...to keep my sanity.

It could be that your 9500i is broken

I might have to order one and try it out myself. I like V1 but you are right. It false so much that it's annoying. I usually turn it off unless I am driving highway.

actually i detected three police cars just today. i been driving around a lot more getting use to the 9500i and going places where i know i might find something. when the 9500i beeps on k or ka, it's mostly like a cop. today, i only heard one false alarm...and i locked that one out. so quiet.

but when the cop comes around, it goes off for sure and a pretty good distance as well. my only complaint is it takes time to ramp up the alert. if i can see a cop in the distance, my v1 alert is almost solid. with the 9500i, you're still getting brap...brap...brap..brap.brap and then it ramps up to solid tone very quickly. not smooth enough for me but i guess i could get use to it.

the 9500i is a keeper.
