Default From the article :

Our editors all agreed they'd prefer the SL65 AMG to the M6 convertible for their personal use
That would be my preference too if I had to pick one out of the two
For a real sports car, I would look elsewhere for something significantly more light weight, & with a good manual transmission preferably . . .

Dimensions

Exterior Dimensions & Capacities
2007 BMW M6 Convertible 2007 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG
Length, in. 191.8 178.5
Width, in. 73.0 71.5
Height, in. 54.2 51.0
Wheelbase, in. 109.5 100.8
Curb Weight, lbs. 4,373 4,518
Turning Circle, ft. 41.0 36.2

OMG, these cars weigh 4400 and 4500 lbs. The SL is quite smaller and weighs more.
That is more than a HYBRID GS 450h and as much as a LS 460.

Wow.

And yes, the SL 65 for me.

yeah of course I would also go for an SL65
but the price is the obvious reason for the differences

$108,795 BMW M6 vs a $189,375 Mercedes SL

if i had to pay for this car, i wouldnt get either
id get a porsche 911 turbo instead

a well written review for the elite convertibles
that V12 bi turbo is simply insane

i love this quote...

"Compared to the M6's frenetic V10, the SL65's V12 makes almost twice the torque at one-third the engine speed. Even at 1,000 rpm, the biturbo V12 makes 420 lb-ft of torque, which is more than the M6's maximum of 383 lb-ft at 6,100 rpm."

haha thats so insane...i'd take the Benz anyday.....bimmer lost its touch

I wouldn't get the SL65 AMG brand new we all know the depreciation of V12 is nuts.

But throw in some Renntech goodies in there, you've got a high 10's- low 11's daily luxury convertible boat.

Isn't the price difference almost 80k USD on these two cars? I mean ok, on pricey cars that's not a huge deal; but that's almost 100% of the M6's MSRP. Heck even the SL55 is like 30k more money. I'd much rather have the SL65, but that's a mighty large price diff to be comparing.

this week's top gear episode was showing the brabus tuned version of the SL65
even more monstrosity
the traction control system had big problems keeping the car gripping so u can see the car wobble A LOT when it is cornering

Yes the SL65 is WAY overpriced compared to a SL55 & the SL600, it's hard to justify in terms of increment value, it's for those who have more money to blow than they know how & just want the top of the line SL model with it's exclusivity, but personally, I would still take the much lower prized SL55 or SL600 over the M6 convertible easy.

Interesting how some of the Japanese sporst cars (IS-F, LF-A, GTR) are getting automatic trannys with 7-8 speeds and AMG opted for a 5 speed. Maybe they've already realized no need for more than 5 in this type of car?

The 8 speed is simply too weak for a car with 700 lb/ft torque. The IS-F with its 350 lb/ft is childs play compared to SL55/65

738lb ft of torque... even starting in 5th gear, I think it would still be able to beat many cars out there.

Ah, the MB is almost twice the cost. I would expect more performance. Common sense don't ya think.

im sure the AMG SL65 hauls *** but what about at the corners? I've seen plenty of times where a N/A S2000 beat a Skyline GT-R at the track over here.

for 200k (and if i had to get a Mercedes of a BMW), I'll take a 550i M-Sport and a M3. Thats more than enough for daily use and at the track for me. But that is friggin insane that its a Mercedes thats meant to be used on a daily basis and not a weekend Lamborghini. It still has all the Mercedes-Benz like warranties and whatnot right??
