Premium Car Sales Increase Leaders Over The Last 5 years . . .
With the Lexus rapid acceleration in the U.S. marketplace, most of us probably would assume they would be the number one choice to be leading the industry in 5 year sales gains. Actually you would be wrong if you did.
While Lexus has maintained a stellar growth chart for the last 5 years, both Porsche and Infiniti outpaced the giant over a 5 year span starting in 2002. Infiniti’s remarkable performance is in spite of a drop of over 11% in sales from 2005 due to a stagnated model line up. With new models finally in the pipeline Infiniti sales should pick up and continue forward at a blistering rate for 2007.
A startling revelation actually for the Spies was the astonishing fall from grace of Jaguar with a 66.21% drop in sales over the last 5 years. In 2002 Jaguar’s sales were almost triple that of Porsche only to fall to 60% of the volume a mere 5 years later.
Overall the sector in general grew an admirable 17.82% over the 5 year span in spite of the overall automotive market actually dropping almost 2% for the same time frame.

Well, Porsche doesn't really count, the only reason they are growing is because they are selling the rather cheap Boxter - and I personally would be simply ashamed to be seen in a Boxter, its like saying "I can't afford a 911, but I need a Porsche to compensate for my small genitalias". Also, they are selling that silly rebadged VW SUV.
As far as Infiniti, they really made the progress, and Lexus should learn from them. First of all they got rid of the J35, which is a modified FWD Maxima, and doesn't belong in a premium car line up. Then they introduced the new G and M model, which are simply great and great values too. Now they need a new flagship.

I think Porsche should be commended for its increase in sales, and Infiniti also deserves some credit for making a turnaround in recent years. However, 'outpaced the giant' should more accurately describe Porsche. The difference in growth between Lexus and Infiniti is but 0.08%...virtually the same growth levels, and considering Infiniti was on a rebound it seems Lexus leaped as well. However looking at Porsche's growth rates...23%+ higher than any one across the board, wow.
BUT, the caveat is that these are growth rates...and when stuck at the bottom and moving up, 'sharp growth' is advertised.

. . . yes, & in terms of increase in actual numbers of cars sold over this period, Lexus is still doing the best. The % increase can look big if you start from a smaller base . . .

+1. Selling an extra 88,000 cars from its position in 2002 is incredibly huge!! Talk about growth.
