Porsche has confirmed that a Cayenne hybrid will be available by 2009 and it's definitely coming to Australia, writes JEZ SPINKS.
Porsche will join the environmentally conscious bandwagon in 2009 when it launches a Cayenne hybrid, and the vehicle will definitely come to Australia.
The German car maker revealed at the Melbourne motor show that it was committed to a hybrid, stressing that the petrol-electric drivetrain - still in its development stages - would only be installed in the Cayenne 4WD.
Porsche Australia's managing director, Michael Winkler, says the hybrid is flexible and not limited to any one type of engine.
"With the technical package of the hybrid, we can pick and choose the engines," says Winkler. "It will be available throughout the [Cayenne] range, and not just on a flagship model."
"[The Cayenne hybrid] will deliver environmental benefits while retaining the performance [that Porsche is renowned for."
Winkler said that Porsche is not working on a diesel engine for the Cayenne, and that it has no plans to develop one.

actually this is old news and guess who's supplying the hybrid system so as much as PhilipMSPT was saying about bringing the RX460h or RX600h, I wouldn't be surprised to actually see that in the Cayenne
