Vehicle First Winner in New 'Car of the Future' Category
Munich, Germany, January 13, 2011—Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) announces that its for-European-market "Auris Hybrid" has won the Yellow Angel award, conferred by the German automobile association Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club e.V (ADAC), in the newly established "Car of the Future" category.
The Yellow Angel award is presented by ADAC in five categories, including "Quality" and "Innovation and Environment", in recognition of exceptional vehicles and technology. The Car of the Future category valuates the effort that an automaker has put into the development of innovative technology. As the inaugural winner of the category, the Auris Hybrid was praised as being "the most advanced car presently available."
In the past Toyota has received Yellow Angel awards in the Quality category for the "Avensis" in 2005 and the "Yaris" in 2006.
Didier Leroy, president of Toyota Motor Europe NV/SA, attended the awards ceremony held here today, where he said: "What makes me especially proud to pick up this Yellow Angel is that it is an award for real cars available to customers now but respecting the needs of future society."
Toyota Motor Manufacturing (UK) Ltd. (TMUK) produces the Auris Hybrid, which is only available in Europe. In the first six months after production began in June 2010, approximately 15,000 vehicles were sold.
