I got into an accident on Friday with the Maxima in Bedford, Ohio. Nothing major - front right fender, some suspension component damage (same side) and the bumper got pushed out a bit.
I called the insurance company this morning and they recommended two shops near my home.
Waiting to hear back from them regarding how much my insurance is going to up by.......
How do you handle this negotiation process to ensure you don't get stiffed? The car is not worth much (probably less than $5K) so am concerned it may be written off. I can't afford to buy another car, so need to fix this car.
If the car is written off, would it be a good idea to buy it and get it fixed myself? The car is in great condition, however the book value is not so great as it is a 97 with over 200K on it.
