Default 2008 Honda Accord to possibly have a 280hp V6??

Accord: A-VTEC to appear, 280hp (or more) 3.5L V6. 4cyl model said to have 180hp, possibly a 200hp "Special Edition"

Couple other interesting tidbits (that every single one of us already guessed 2 years ago )...

2008 RSX: Rumored JDM resurrection with SH-AWD, 250+hp

2009 TL: (Fall '08 launch): SH-AWD, 300+hp V6

2009 TSX: (Spring '08 launch): A-VTEC, SH-AWD, 2.3 Turbo for TSX(?)

that doesnt surprise me. the three auto makers honda, toyota and nissan always keep up with each other in terms of HP every new generation. if you look at honda historically the accord usually gets remodeled before the TL. which means the new accord will have at least 272 Hp to match up with altima/camry but probably not more then 286 or so, cuz then it will have more then the TL s-type and for sure not more then 300 which will make it more then the RL. When the TL gets remodeled it will have at least 300hp probably closer to 310-320Hp\, the RL if it isnt canned by then will probably move towards 350Hp.

I really dont see why the RSX should return. If anything, it should return as a higher end coupe, not a sport compact car.

The RSX was axed because Acura intentionally wanted to move upscale. Bringing the RSX back would only go against what Acura wanted to go for awhile ago.

Why does the Accord need 280hp? People are complaining about gas prices and global warming but we've got 280hp in Accords now? Just a few years ago 280hp was enough for a sports car

Not that I'm one to talk, since I just bought a Corvette , but I doubt 99% of Accord drivers need or even want 280hp

their current V6 with 240/250Hp is selling well.. So I don't see why they are not going into the Hp war.....

It just will never be my car... ( had 2 accords and that's it! )

I understand its the V6 model, but I doubt even people who opt for the V6 in an Accord need or really want 280hp. Why not keep the hp the same and increase the gas mileage?

I just think too many car companies are going crazy with adding hp to boring cars like the Accord and Camry. They're always going to be an Accord or a Camry, regardless of hp. Let the enthusiasts pay more for performance and let people who decide to buy a family sedan get better mileage.

One of the reasons I got rid of my GS400 was that cars like Camries and Accords are now just as fast! That just doesn't sound right to me. The way it's going, in 5 years I'll have to worry about the 2012 Camry being faster than my 400hp Corvette

w/ A-vtec mpg is probably improved.

if fuel economy is important then the 4cyl or hybrid Camry is for you.

I agree that sensible affordable family sedans don't really need these real high horsepower numbers. With all that horsepower coming from 6 cylinders you are more likely to run into problems and the engines will probrably not last as long as they used to. It also hurts gas mileage as can be seen in people constantly complaining about the "real world" gas mileage of the new more powerful Camry, Altima, Maxima, Avalon, etc. There is no reason a Camry needs over 260hp or a Avalon needs 280hp because people who buy those cars don't race them and they are pretty sloppy handlers. Most people who buy those cars would rather have a smoother more fuel efficient reliable engine then something with big horsepower numbers.

It is nice to have that horsepower but I don't think a 4 door family sedan like the Accord needs a 280hp 6 cylinder. I would rather see around 250hp and focus more on making the car lighter, more agile, and more fuel efficient. 280hp should be reserved for maybe a special edition coupe. Most likely with a high horsepower number means a higher price too. If people want high horsepower they can buy more expensive cars from Acura, Lexus, and Infiniti.

It definitely doesn't need it, but it will get it because the V6 Camry already has 268 HP, the Altima has 270HP, heck even the Rav4 has 268HP. None of those cars need it but they all have it. As long as any one of the competition ups the ante, the other competitors will continue to compete.

All those power driving the front wheels. "fun fun fun"....

Is Acura trying to be the Japanese Audi with all those SH-AWD equipped cars?

The current Camry has a 3.5L V6 with 270hp (268hp to be exact) and the avalon (driven by lots of elderly people) uses the same engine. Im both cases, neither cars need that much power, but no one is complaining

Horsepower sells cars. There alway has to be an incentive for buyers to buy a newer car when it comes out. It just happens that having a more powerful engine tickles people's tummy

I just look at this horsepower craze as the evolution of cars. Cars all around are constantly getting more power. I remember the days when 170 HP was considered a lot for a family sedan. Flash forward to today and 4 cyl. models almost make that much power, with far better fuel economy to boot.

That does suck for us GS400/430 owners that family sedans like the Camry/Altima are almost as quick as our cars and the new Accord will probrably be faster but that is what happens with new models getting these huge horsepower boosts. I am sure if I start getting creamed by kids driving their parents new 280hp Accords I will have to start looking a little more into making the GS faster. At least it is a good looking car on the outside. I think you will be pretty safe in your 400hp Corvette for quite awhile from new Camry's, Accords, Altimas, etc. There is only so much hp you can get reliably from a v-6 until you have to deal with too poor gas mileage, roughness, cost, emissions, and torque steer.
